  1. 1. Structure Dynamics and Heterogeneity in Soft Materials Determined by FRAP

    Författare :Joel H Hagman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soft materials; Fluorescence recovery after photobelaching; Confocal microscopy; Heterogeneity; Structure dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : A common interest in industry today is to be able to control the mass transport inside soft (bio) materials in order to tailor both release and uptake of substances. Most of the materials used are heterogeneous, quite often multiphase or compound materials and often undergo dynamic changes; it is therefore important to have control over the local microstructure in order to tailor the macroscale properties. 2. 2. Structure and Dynamics of Hydrated Biopolymers

    Författare :Poornima Ramamohan; Jakob Wohlert; Istvan Furo; Fritjof Nilsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Hydrated Polysaccharides; Molecular Dynamics Simulations; Structure-Function Properties; Convergence of Equilibrium Timescales; Chemical Heterogeneity; Hydrerade polysackarider; molekylära dynamiksimuleringar; struktur- funktionsegenskaper; konvergens av jämviktstidskalor; kemisk heterogenitet; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : Hydrated polysaccharide systems primarily using xylans along with mutans and alternans were studied using long atomistic simulations over a few microseconds to analyse structure-function relationships and nanoscale interactions with moisture. The influence of various structural and chemical factors such as alignment, nature of glycosidic linkage, effect of moisture / chemical substitutions was explored with a focus on structure-dynamics correlations to aid in the effective functionalisation of biomaterials for the development of a green, circular bioeconomy. 3. 3. Computer Simulations of Polymer Gels : Structure, Dynamics, and Deformation

    Författare :Natasha Kamerlin; Christer Elvingson; Jan Forsman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; computer simulations; Brownian dynamics; polymer gel; microgel; spherical boundary conditions; hypersphere; core-shell; deswelling; mechanical properties; uniaxial elongation;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the results of computer simulation studies of the structure, dynamics, and deformation of cross-linked polymer gels. Obtaining a fundamental understanding of the interrelation between the detailed structure and the properties of polymer gels is a challenge and a key issue towards designing materials for specific purposes. 4. 4. Stochastic Epidemic Models : Different Aspects of Heterogeneity

    Författare :Mathias Lindholm; Tom Britton; Maria Deijfen; Gianpaolo Scalia Tomba; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik; matematisk statistik; Mathematical Statistics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with the study of stochastic epidemic models for infectious diseases in heterogeneous populations. All diseases treated are of SIR type, i.e. individuals are either Susceptible, Infectious or Recovered (and immune). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Ethnic heterogeneity of the North-Swedish population : its origin and medical consequences

    Författare :Per-Olof Nylander; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ethnic heterogeneity; Northern Sweden; Population genetics; Finns; Saamis; Genetic markers; Hypercholesterolemia;

    Sammanfattning : Northern Sweden shows a unique population structure with remarkable geographical variations in the distribution of genetic disorders as well as genetic markers like blood groups, serum groups and red cell enzyme types. The present-day population of northern Sweden is a mixture of people of Finnish, Saamish (Lappish) and Central-Swedish origin. LÄS MER
