  1. 1. Studies on viral encephalitis with emphasis on herpes simplex encephalitis

    Författare :Anders Hjalmarsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis studies of two types of viral CNS-infections are presented; influenza related encephalitis and herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE). Influenza related encephalitis/encephalopathy has been reported to increase both in incidence and severity in the Japanese population the last decade. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Genetic variants of herpes simplex virus type 1

    Författare :Elham Rekabdar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; s simplex virus type 1; glycoprotein G; genovariants; intrastrain diversity;

    Sammanfattning : Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) virus causes oral as well as genital lesions, and, on rare occasions, focal encephalitis and severe neonatal infections. Due to the partly overlapping clinical manifestations of infection with HSV-1 and its closest relative among herpesviruses, HSV-2, diagnostic methods are required to discriminate between infections with these two viruses. 3. 3. Virus-cell membrane interactions - Binding studies of Herpes Simplex Virus using surface-sensitive techniques

    Författare :Nadia Peerboom; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TIRF microscopy; single particle tracking; binding kinetics; glycosaminoglycans; herpes simplex virus;

    Sammanfattning : Viruses are parasites capable of infecting all forms of life. They lack the ability to replicate by themselves and therefore hijack the replication machinery of cells to produce new viral copies, called virions. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Studies on host-related pathogenesis of herpes simplex type-1 encephalitis in rat

    Författare :Biborka Bereczky-Veress; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In order to explore the molecular mechanisms of Herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE), a severe infection of the central nervous system (CNS) caused by Herpes simplex type 1 virus (HSV-1); a rat model resembling the human condition was characterized in the DA (Dark Agouti) strain. After injection into the whiskers’ area HSV-1 entered the CNS at the level of the brain stem via the trigeminal ganglion, subsequently spreading to the thalamus, cortex and olfactory bulb, leading to death at five days post infection (dpi). 5. 5. Herpesvirus Infection and Immunity in Neurocognitive Disorders

    Författare :Gabriel Westman; Britt-Marie Eriksson; Martin Ingelsson; Olle Korsgren; Jan Ernerudh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; Herpes simplex encephalitis; Herpesvirus; Cytomegalovirus; CMV; HSV-1; HHV-6; CD8 T-cells; Cellular immunity; Immunosenescence; Autoimmunity; NMDA receptor; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Herpesviruses have co-speciated with several vertebrate and invertebrate animals throughout the history of evolution. In the immunocompetent human host, primary infection is usually benign, whereafter the virus is brought into life-long latency. LÄS MER
