  1. 1. Glucose and lipid metabolism in insulin resistance : an experimental study in fat cells

    Författare :Jonas Burén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Public health; adipocyte; insulin resistance; type 2 diabetes; insulin signalling; glucose uptake; insulin; glucose; dexamethasone; insulin receptor substrate; protein kinase B; GLUT4; lipoprotein lipase; Folkhälsomedicin; Public health medicine research areas; Folkhälsomedicinska forskningsområden; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is usually caused by a combination of pancreatic β-cell failure and insulin resistance in target tissues like liver, muscle and fat. Insulin resistance is characterised by an impaired effect of insulin to reduce hepatic glucose production and to promote glucose uptake in peripheral tissues. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mechanism-Based Modelling of Clinical and Preclinical Studies of Glucose Homeostasis

    Författare :Oskar Alskär; Maria C Kjellsson; Mats O Karlsson; Jenny Y. Chien; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glucose homeostasis; pharmacometrics; Farmakokinetik och läkemedelsterapi; Pharmacokinetics and Drug Therapy;

    Sammanfattning : Glucose is an important nutrient and energy source in the body. However, too high concentration in the blood is harmful and may lead to several complications developing over time. It was estimated that 5 million people in the world died from complications related to diabetes during 2015. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies on factors modulating glucose homeostasis in healthy and diabetic rats

    Författare :Kamal Yassin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :glucose homeostasis;

    Sammanfattning : Glucose is the most common substrate for energy metabolism. Despite the varying demands for glucose, the body needs to regulate its internal environment and maintain a constant and stable condition. Glucose homeostasis requires harmonized interaction between several tissues, achieving equilibrium between glucose output and uptake. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Islet glucose metabolism and insulin release in two animal models of glucose intolerance

    Författare :Zong-Chao Ling; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Goto-Kakizaki GK rat; transgenic mice; glucose-6-phosphatase activity; insulin secretion; glucocorticoids; [alpha]2-adrenergic receptors; hyperglycemia;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is a complex and heterogenous disease resulting from the interaction of defects of both genetic and environmental origin. Abnormalities contributing to the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes include impaired [beta]-cell function, peripheral insulin resistance and increased hepatic glucose production. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes -role of defects in insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity

    Författare :Devjit Tripathy; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; Endocrinology; secreting systems; Calpain 10 gene; genetics of type 2 diabetes; MODY; Endogenous glucose production; Disposition index; Botnia clamp; IGT; IFG; HOMA; insulin sensitivity; insulin secretion;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is characterised by defects in insulin sensitivity, insulin secretion and increased endogenous glucose production. The relative contribution of each of these defects remains controversial. LÄS MER
