6. Performance and Radiation Hardness of the ATLAS/SCT Detector Module
Sammanfattning : The ATLAS experiment is a general purpose experiment being constructed at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, Geneva. ATLAS is designed to exploit the full physics potential of LHC, in particular to study topics con- cerning the Higgs mechanism, Super-symmetry and CP violation. LÄS MER
7. Modelling and Characterisation of the Martensite Formation in Low Alloyed Carbon Steels
Sammanfattning : The current work contains experimental and theoretical work about the formation of martensite from the austenitic state of the steel Hardox 450. Simulation of rolling and subsequent quenching of martensitic steel plates requires a model that can account for previous deformation, current stresses and the temperature history, therefore dilatometry experiments were performed, with and without deformation. 8. Preparation, characterization and properties of nitrogen rich glasses in alkaline earth-Si-O-N systems
Sammanfattning : Nitrogen rich glasses in the systems Ca-Si-O-N, Sr-Si-O-N and AE-Ca-Si-O-N (AE = Mg, Sr and Ba) have been prepared using a novel glass-synthesis route. The limits of the glass forming regions in the Ca and Sr systems and substitution limits in the AE-Ca-Si-O-N systems have been determined and physical properties of the glasses measured. LÄS MER
9. Influence of combined thermal and mechanical loadings on pearlitic steel microstructure in railway wheels and rails
Sammanfattning : One of the most important aspects in railway operation is the interaction between rail and wheel. The contact patch between these two components is around the size of a small coin, and since high loads act on this small area, stresses will give rise to wear and damage in both components. LÄS MER
10. Role of alloying elements in Mo5Si3 intermetallics
Sammanfattning : The role of alloying elements in the intermetallic compound Mo5Si3 was studied in the alloying systems Mo5-xMxSi3 (M = Cr, Ti, Nb, Ni, or Co, x = 0.5-2). The effects of the alloying elements were examined by characterising the microstructures and identifying the resulting phases. In the case of Cr and Nb alloying, a solubility of 25% (at. LÄS MER
