  1. 1. Expanding role of caveolae in control of adipocyte metabolism : proteomics of caveolae

    Författare :Nabila Aboulaich; Peter Strålfors; Alexander Vener; Hans Jörnvall; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes; Insulin signalling; Fatty acid metabolism; Proteomics; Mass spectrometry; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The primary function of adipose tissue is to store energy in the form of triacylglycerol, which is hydrolyzed to fatty acids to supply other tissues with energy. While insulin promotes the storage of triacylglycerol, catecholamines stimulate its hydrolysis. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is characterized by increased levels of glucose in the blood originating from insulin resistance in insulin sensitive tissues and from reduced pancreatic insulin production. Around 400 million people in the world are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and the correlation with obesity is strong. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Structural / functional studies on human alkaline phosphatases

    Författare :Alexey Kozlenkov; Jose-Luis Millan; Hans Jörnvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicine; mutagenesis; enzyme kinetics; computer modeling; crystallography; natural substrates; uncompetitive inhibition; isozymes; gene families; Biomedicin; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The recent elucidation of the three-dimensional structure of human placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP) has enabled me to perform structural studies aimed at characterizing the properties of human PLAP and tissue-nonspecific AP (TNAP) as paradigms for mammalian APs in general, using site-directed mutagenesis, protein expression, kinetic analysis and computer modeling. In Paper I, we found that a single critical E429G substitution explains the difference in stability and kinetics between the common allelic variants of PLAP and the D allozyme. LÄS MER
