  1. 6. Brain plasticity and hand function

    Författare :Anders Björkman; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatologi; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatology; Surgery; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; hand function; nerve injury; brain plasticity; orthopaedics;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the effects of cortical reorganisational changes following experimental deafferentation and peripheral nerve injury and apply the concept of brain plasticity to enhance sensory re-education following peripheral nerve injury and repair in the hand. In the first two papers the effects on hand function of contralateral deafferentation was investigated. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Structural and functional changes in the brain after surgically repaired median nerve injury

    Författare :Per F. Nordmark; Roland S. Johansson; Henrik Ehrsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Humans; Hand; Touch; Peripheral nerve injury; Magnetic resonance imaging; Somatosensory Cortex; Cortical plasticity; fysiologi; Physiology; handkirurgi; hand surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Despite the best available surgical repair, traumatic median nerve injury within the forearm typically causes lifelong impairment in hand function. This stems from an inadequate reinnervation of the nerves supporting sensory functions of the thumb, index and long finger, and of nerves supplying intrinsic hand muscles. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Vibration exposure of the glabrous skin of the human hand

    Författare :Ronnie Lundström; Ludwik Liszka; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vibration; hand; skin; mechanical impedance; mechanoreceptors; tactile perception; high-frequency;

    Sammanfattning : An occupational exposure to hand-arm vibration can cause a complex of neurological, vascular and musculo-skeletal disturbances, known as the 'vibration syndrome'. However, the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms are not at all clear. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Ultrasonography of the hand

    Författare :Margaretha Höglund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Extremities; hand; joint ligaments; injuries; ganglion; soft tissue neoplasm ultrasound; statistics.;

    Sammanfattning : Purpose: A joint project of the Departments of Hand Surgery and Radiology at the same hospital in Stockholm to place during eight years from 1989 to 1996. The aim of the project was to evaluate the possible benefits of diagnostic ultrasound in connection with specific clinical problems in hand surgery. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Periulnar Injuries Associated with Distal Radius Fractures

    Författare :Johan Scheer; Adolfsson Lars; Magnus Tägil; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Triangular fibrocartilage complex; Distal radius fractures; Wrist injuries; Distal radioulnar joint; Ulnocarpal stability; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Residual dysfunction after a fracture of the distal radius is most often mild but may give rise to significant impairment especially in the younger active population. The symptoms often manifest around the distal ulna when loading the hand or rotating the forearm. LÄS MER
