  1. 1. The village that vanished : The roots of erosion in a Tanzanian village

    Författare :Vesa-Matti Loiske; Ulf Sporrong; Aud Talle; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; soil erosion; soil conservation; Tanzania; Iraqw; social stratification; land tenure; Mama Issara; Giting; Hanang; Political Ecology; Scientific realism; Geography; villagization; Human geography; Kulturgeografi; Human Geography; kulturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : In the village'of Citing in the northern highlands of Tanzania, the factors: social stratification, land tenure, production strategies, investment patterns and the economic uncertainties of society are studied and their relationship to land degradation is examined. The main assumption of the study is that the causes of land degradation are so complex that a methodology that emphasises contextualisation has to be used. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Spatial variability of geogenic contaminants in drinking water sources : Insights into hydrogeological controls, geospatial data for safe water supply and groundwater resource management

    Författare :J. Ijumulana; Prosun Bhattacharya; Felix Mtalo; Steve W. Lyon; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drinking water; geogenic contaminants; potentially toxic elements; fluoride; spatial analysis; spatial variability; Tanzania; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of geogenic contaminants in drinking water is a major health concern in many parts of the world. The interaction of groundwater with different rock types and sediments in the natural geochemical environment play an important role in controlling their mobility. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Linking lake variability, climate, and human activity in Basotu, Tanzania

    Författare :Lindsey Higgins; Lars-Ove Westerberg; Jan Risberg; Sarah Davies; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tanzania; crater lake; climate change; land-use change; water resources; environmental variability; diatoms; paleolimnology; chronology; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Paleoenvironmental investigations establish important baseline knowledge of the natural variability of lake systems, to better understand human impacts on the landscape, and the effects of climate change on water resources. By combining long-term environmental history with investigations into modern land use patterns and climatological events, a wider perspective can be reached that has practical applications in water governance.
