1. Hepatic and Peritoneal Colorectal Metastases : Aspects of Prognosis and Treatment
Sammanfattning : Although two-thirds of colorectal cancer patients are cured by surgery, approximately 50% of the patients with this disease develop locally recurrent or distant metastases during the course of their illness. The aim of this study was to identify metastatic sites associated with poor prognosis in rectal cancer and then to investigate methods that can prevent the development and growth of metastases and optimise uptake of drugs at these sites in animal models. 2. Pseudomyxoma Peritonei : Aspects of Natural History, Learning Curve, Treatment Outcome and Prognostic Factors
Sammanfattning : Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a rare disease characterized by mucinous peritoneal metastasis (PM). Different loco-regional treatment strategies, i.e. debulking surgery and cytoreductive surgery (CRS) in combination with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), have changed the prognosis for these patients. 3. Operating Room Efficiency and Postoperative Recovery after Major Abdominal Surgery : The Surgical Team’s Efficiency and the Early Postoperative Recovery of Patients with Peritoneal Carcinomatosis
Sammanfattning : In selected patients, surgical treatments such as cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) have enabled curative treatment options for previously incurable diseases, such as peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC). The introduction of resource demanding surgery could affect the work process, efficiency, and productivity within a surgical department and factors influencing patient postoperative recovery processes may have an impact on the efficiency of patient care after major surgery. 4. Cytoreductive Surgery and Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy in Patients with Peritoneal Metastases from Colorectal Cancer : Aspects of loco-regional treatment outcome, patient selection, and chemo-sensitivity
Sammanfattning : Previously, peritoneal metastases(PM) from colorectal cancer(CRC) have been considered a terminal and generalised form of cancer. A new treatment strategy combining cytoreductive surgery(CRS) and intraperitoneal chemotherapy(IPC) has recently shown promising results. LÄS MER
5. Loco-regional Treatment of Peritoneal Carcinomatosis: Survival, Morbidity and Quality of Life
Sammanfattning : Peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) is traditionally regarded as a terminal stage of disease with a poor prognosis and systemic chemotherapy is regarded as palliative treatment. In order to improve survival and even to achieve cure for selected patients with PC, cytoreductive surgery and intraperitoneal che-motherapy have been advocated. LÄS MER
