  1. 6. Habitat compensation in nature-like fishways : Effects on benthos and fish

    Författare :Stina Gustafsson; Olle Calles; Martin Österling; Jostein Skurdal; Paul Giller; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biocanal; biodiversity; brown trout; freshwater pearl mussel; functional feeding groups; habitat heterogeneity; large woody debris; macroinvertebrates; PIT-tag; salmonids; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The construction of nature-like fishways has become an increasingly common measure to restore longitudinal connectivity in streams and rivers affected by hydroelectric development. These fishways also have the potential to function as habitat compensation measures when running waters have been degraded or lost. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Modeling Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and brown trout (Salmo trutta) responses to river habitat alteration

    Författare :Kristine Lund Bjørnås; John Piccolo; Olle Calles; Steven F. Railsback; Leif Asbjørn Vøllestad; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecohydraulics; Restoration; Natural resource management; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Half the world’s river volume is affected by flow alterations and/or fragmentation, a figure that is likely to increase with the current global surge in hydropower development. At the same time, freshwater biodiversity is in rapid decline. LÄS MER

  3. 8. A Spatial Scale Approach to Fish Habitat Ecology and Impacted Rivers

    Författare :Henry H. Hansen; Eva Bergman; Max Lindmark; Dana Infante; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fish Habitat Models; River Ecology; Novel Riverscapes; Spatial Scale; Fish Communities; Anthropogenic Impacts; Sustainability; River Management; River Restoration; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Fish biodiversity in rivers is threatened by continual habitat loss. Evidence to support management and restoration of rivers requires information about the specific habitat requirements for entire fish communities. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Plant responses after drainage and restoration in rich fens

    Författare :Kalle Mälson; Håkan Rydin; Sebastian Sundberg; Harri Vasander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; brown mosses; bryophytes; colonization; competition; dispersal limitation; liming; mire; peatland; rewetting; wetland restoration; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Rich fens are an important, but threatened, habitat type in the boreal landscape. In this thesis I have examined responses of rich fen vascular plants and bryophytes after drainage and restoration.The effects of drainage on the rich fen flora were observed in a long time study and the responses were rapid and drastic. 5. 10. Land Use Change in Space and Time : implications for plant species conservation in semi-natural grasslands

    Författare :Regina Lindborg; Ove Eriksson; Johan Ehrlén; Thomas Elmqvist; Markus Fischer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diversity; management; restoration; landscape; history; Population viability analysis; seed-sowing; Primula farinosa; Campanula rotundifolia; grazing; fragmentation; extinction risk; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Land use change has during the last century altered the traditional rural landscape in Sweden, resulting in a major decline in species diversity. Traditional small-scale farming, with a remarkably high small-scale species richness, has changed in favour of rationalized agriculture, and many semi-natural grasslands, i.e. LÄS MER
