  1. 1. Alkaline Sphingomyelinase; A Potential Inhibitor in Colorectal Carcinogenesis

    Författare :Erik Hertervig; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; onkologi; cancer; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; Gastroenterologi; Gastro-enterology; HT-29; MIN mouse; FAP; colorectal cancer; human; alkaline sphingomyelinase;

    Sammanfattning : Sphingomyelin (SM) is present both in eucaryotic cells and the diet. Sphingomyelinase (SMase) hydrolyses SM and generates ceramide that has been implicated in the regulation of cell growth, differentiation and apoptosis. Previously a SMase with alkaline pH optimum was identified in the intestinal tract. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Alteration of gut microbiota has been associated with development of immune mediated diseases, such as allergy. In part, this could be due to the influence of microbes in shaping the immune response. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Protein kinase C-dependent regulation of the epithelial barrier

    Författare :Anita Sjö; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The intestinal epithelium is essential for the absorption of nutrients and for the defence against harmful substances in the gut. The permeability and barrier functions of epithelia are mainly controlled by the intercellular tight junctions. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Characterization of Escherichia coli colonizing the gastrointestinal tract and urinary tract catheters

    Författare :Xiaoda Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []

    Sammanfattning : Commensal and pathogenic bacteria express biofilm behaviour which is thought to alter bacteria-host interactions and contribute to colonization and persistence. In the current thesis, the epidemiology of biofilm formation in gastrointestinal commensal Escherichia coli and E. coli isolated from urinary catheters is described. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Characterization of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli water isolates

    Författare :Anna Nilsson; Hilpi Rautelin; Astrid Skarp; Cecilia Johansson; Mikael Skurnik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; C. jejuni; C. coli; C.coli clade 2; C. coli clade 3; waterborne pathogens; whole genome sequencing; water survival; pathogenic potential; phenotypical identification; Klinisk bakteriologi; Clinical Bacteriology; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Campylobacter jejuni and C. coli are together the most common cause of bacterial gastroenteritis in the European Union. Campylobacter can be transmitted to humans via contaminated water, but it is largely unknown how these bacteria survive in water. LÄS MER
