21. FOXC2 and CAPN10 as candidate genes for obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : The worldwide prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes is increasing rapidly. Both disorders depend on genetic and environmental factors. The studies included in this thesis investigated the possible association of the FOXC2 and CAPN10 genes with obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and related phenotypes. LÄS MER
22. Clinical and Biochemical Features of Adult Diabetes Mellitus in Sudan
Sammanfattning : The high prevalence of diabetes mellitus among the Sudanese population is linked to obesity, poor glycaemic control and a high rate of complications. This study investigated 1/ Leptin hormone and its correlations with different biochemical characteristics in Sudanese diabetic subjects, 2/ The impact of glycaemic control on pregnancy outcome in pregnancies with diabetes, 3/ The glycaemic response to Sudanese traditional carbohydrate foods, 4/ The influence of glucose self-monitoring on the glycaemic control among this population, 5/ The health related quality of life in Sudanese subjects with diabetes-related lower limb amputation. 23. Metabolic responsiveness to growth hormone in children
Sammanfattning : Metabolic effects of growth hormone (GH) therapy in short children have not been clearly established owing to the previous lack of controlled trials studying the metabolic outcome in response to different GH doses despite the known effects of GH on insulin sensitivity, lipid profile, and body composition. It has previously been shown that individualized GH doses during catch-up growth significantly reduce the proportion of unexpectedly good and poor responders around a predefined individual growth target in short prepubertal children. 24. Studies on nutrition, body composition and bone mineralization in healthy 8-yr-olds in an urban Swedish community
Sammanfattning : Background: The incidence of welfare diseases including overweight in childhood is increasing worldwide. The results from a study of healthy pre-school children showed that in a population with well educated parents 17% of the children were overweight or obese at the age of 4 years. LÄS MER
25. Pharmacometric Characterization of Postprandial Responses and Taste Perception in Individuals with Obesity
Sammanfattning : Obesity is a major health epidemic worldwide and occurs when long-term excess of energy intake beyond energy utilization leads to an increase in adipose tissue. Energy balance is coordinated by the central nervous system regulation of appetite and adaptive thermogenesis via a complex array of neuropeptides which communicate to the periphery by various circulating measures dictating the utilization of various energy sources such as, carbohydrates, fat, or protein.
