16. Understanding juvenile idiopathic arthritis : a multidimensional approach
Sammanfattning : The overarching objective of this doctoral thesis is to enhance the understanding of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), a complex autoimmune disease affecting children. With the aim of filling the knowledge gaps in JIA, we conducted a comprehensive study on biomarkers with distinct biological implications, including genetic variations, autoantibodies, and plasma and synovial fluid proteins, in individuals with JIA and controls. 17. On genetics and transcriptomics of multiple sclerosis
Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system, where both genetic and environmental factors influence one individual's risk of developing the disease. This thesis is focused on genetic and transcriptomic aspects of MS. LÄS MER
18. Common viruses and host gene interactions in multiple sclerosis
Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disorder, characterised by demyelination and inflammation of the central nervous system, leading to sensory and motor symptoms. MS is thought to be complex disease, with both environmental and genetic risk factors underlying disease susceptibility. LÄS MER
19. Immune responses in defined subgroups of patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on inflammatory responses in the airways of sarcoidosis patients. Sarcoidosis is a T helper 1-mediated inflammatory disease with unknown aetiology. HLA-DRB1*0301pos sarcoidosis patients often present with an acute form of disease, i.e. LÄS MER
20. The blind spot : inflammatory pathways and specific antigens in clinical phenotypes of pulmonary sarcoidosis
Sammanfattning : Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous multisystem disorder of unknown aetiology, primarily manifesting in the lungs. The disease appears in two forms, which are mainly distinguished based on clinical criteria; Löfgren's syndrome (LS) presents with acute onset, usually fever, active inflammation and characteristic symptoms such as bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy (BHL), erythema nodosum and/or ankle arthritis, but is also associated with spontaneous resolution and a good prognosis.
