  1. 1. HHV-8/KSHV association with tumor cells during development of Kaposi sarcoma

    Författare :Fatemeh Pak; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is a highly and abnormally vascularized tumor-like lesion which usually presents as a cutaneous disease and progresses to extracutaneous, systemic spread usually in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, lungs, oral cavity and lymph nodes. It is the most common neoplasm of AIDS patient and included in the staging of HIV disease progression. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Nuclear compartmentalization of viral and cellular proteins involved in gamma-herpes virus (EBV and HHV-8) mediated cellular transformation

    Författare :Karin Mattsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :EBV; HHV-8; latency; PML nuclear body; fluorescence microscopy;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the work described in this thesis has been to characterize the nuclear compartmentalization of cellular and viral proteins involved in EBV or HHV-8 mediated cellular transformation. We have studied the EBV encoded EBNA-5 and its association with the PML nuclear bodies (NBs) and nuclear inclusions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Development of AIDS associated and endemic Kaposi sarcoma : HHV-8/KSHV viral load in cutaneous and oral tumor cells

    Författare :Fatemeh Pak; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Oral Kaposi s sarcoma . HHV-8 . immunohistochemistry; PCR ; lymphatic ascular endothelium;

    Sammanfattning : Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is a highly and abnormally vascularized tumor-like lesion which usually presents as a cutaneous lesion and eventually progresses to systemic disease usually in the gastrointestinal (G1) tract, lungs, oral cavity and lymph nodes. Whether KS represents a predominantly monoclonal neoplastic cell proliferation or a hyperplastic, reactive polyclonal process is still controversial. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pathogenesis of the recently identified human herpesviruses 6 and 8

    Författare :Malin Enbom; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Two diseases that for many years have been suspected to be of viral origin are multiple sclerosis (MS) and Kaposi's sarcoma (KS). By the use of a new technique called representational difference analysis both these diseases have recently been associated with new lymphotropic herpesviruses, i.e. human herpesviruses (HHV) 6 and 8. 5. 5. Kaposi's sarcoma and malignant lymphomas in Tanzania during the AIDS epidemic

    Författare :Amos Rodger Mwakigonja; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Kaposi s sarcoma (KS) studies Kaposi´s sarcoma (KS) is the most frequent AIDS tumor (AKS) and associated with HHV-8, but controversial whether a clonal tumor or mostly a reactive proliferation of endothelial spindle cells (SC). In the present studies AKS and endemic KS (EKS) biopsies were compared for expression of HHV-8-LANA, the lymphatic endothelial (LEC) markers LYVE-1 and Ki-67 (proliferation). LÄS MER
