1. Growth factor receptor signalling in thyrocytes of normal and neoplastic origin
Sammanfattning : Cellular growth and function are controlled by stimulatory and inhibitory factors actingthrough specific receptors. The present thesis focuses on the role of growth factors, theirreceptors and signalling pathways in normal and neoplastic thyroid epithelial cell biology. LÄS MER
2. A microscopic investigation of miR-34c and miR-205 in Prostate Cancer
Sammanfattning : The complex genetics of cancer allows tumors to grow and spread undeterred by the control mechanisms of the cell. The importance of protein-coding genes in tumorigenesis is well established. LÄS MER
3. Hormonal regulation of liver and tumor growth
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the regulatory functions of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a) on liver growth, and the importance of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and the HGF receptor (Met) for growth of mesenchyme-derived tumors. The studies on different types of liver growth, measured as weight, DNA and protein content, and DNA synthesis, were performed on mice lacking the IL-6 or the TNF receptor-1 gene back-crossed to the C57bl/6 strain. 4. The receptor tyrosine kinase Met and the protein tyrosine phosphatase PTPN2 in breast cancer
Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women worldwide and the second leading cause of cancer death. It is a heterogeneous disease and is subdivided into different subtypes, all with different treatment responses and survival outcomes. LÄS MER
5. GDNF and its receptors : a structure-function analysis of the NCAM-GDNF-GFRalpha1 complex and an examination of potential receptor candidates
Sammanfattning : Neurotrophic factors are small, secreted proteins that are important players in the development and maintenance of the nervous system. Their functions span from neuronal survival and migration to neurite outgrowth and axon guidance, and in some cases even programmed cell death. LÄS MER
