  1. 16. Smart assistants for smart homes

    Författare :Katharina Rasch; Rassul Ayani; Christian Schulte; Johan Schubert; Alois Ferscha; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; smart homes; pervasive computing; ubiquitous computing; machine learning; HCI;

    Sammanfattning : The smarter homes of tomorrow promise to increase comfort, aid elderly and disabled people, and help inhabitants save energy. Unfortunately, smart homes today are far from this vision – people who already live in such a home struggle with complicated user interfaces, inflexible home configurations, and difficult installation procedures. 2. 17. Unwrapping Cobol : Lessons in Crisis Computing

    Författare :Linda Hilfling Ritasdatter; Susan Kozel; Maria Hellström Reimer; Florian Cramer; Nishant Shah; Malmö universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Crisis; Execution; Maintenance; Cobol; Automation; Global Flows; Y2K; Human Factor; Outsourcing; Development; Legacy Systems; Programming Languages; History of Computing; HCI; Software Wrapping; Postcolonial Studies; Diffraction; Broken world thinking; Grace Hopper; Media Archaeology; Debugging; Zombie Media; Obsolescence; Technological Development; Unsettling Ontologies; Fourth Industrial Revolution; Artificial Intelligence; Interaktionsdesign; Interaktionsdesign;

    Sammanfattning : By engaging with COBOL, a detested and would-be obsolete programming language, the dark sides of automation are examined in this thesis: hidden workforces and computational infrastructures that are, in reality, central to the execution and maintenance of global economic and informational flows. Frictions within these flows are made more visible in moments of crisis when asymmetrical power structures are surfaced, as demonstrated in an analysis of the infamous Y2K Bug, its connection to the outsourcing boom in India and the legacy of COBOL. 3. 18. Co-Construction of Hybrid Spaces

    Författare :Åsa Rudström; Kristina Höök; Mikael Wiberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HCI; MMI; social computing; mobile computing; co-construction; seamfulness; awareness; hybrid space; Computer and systems science; Data- och systemvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : When computational systems become increasingly mobile and ubiquitous, digital information and the use of computational systems may increasingly be immersed into the physical and social world of objects, people and practices. However, the digital, physical and social materials that make up these hybrid spaces have different characteristics and are hard to understand for users. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Complex activity recognition and context validation within social interaction tools

    Författare :Saguna Saguna; Christian Becker; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; context awareness; activity recognition; social networks; situation awareness; HCI; complex activity recognition; sensors; Prototype evaluation; SACAAR; OAT4CDAT; online activity toolkit; context driven activity theory; wearable computing; smart homes; presence; machine learning; Markov chains; Pervasive Mobile Computing; Distribuerade datorsystem;

    Sammanfattning : Human activity recognition using sensing technology is crucial in achieving pervasive and ubiquitous computing paradigms. It can be applied in many domains such as health-care, aged-care, personal-informatics, industry, sports and military. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Social Awareness Support for Cooperation : Design Experience and Theoretical Models

    Författare :Ovidiu Sandor; Yngve Sundblad; Cristian Bogdan; Steven Benford; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HCI; CSCW; social awareness; user-centred design; Spatial Model; Aether Model; communities; knowledge; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the research question of how social awareness support in computer systems for groups and communities can be designed in a successful way. While the field of human-computer interaction has been working with similar questions for more than 20 years, many aspects of people’s cooperation and the way those should be considered in system design still need further consideration and research.
