  1. 1. Sources of dioxins and other POPs to the marine environment : Identification and apportionment using pattern analysis and receptor modeling

    Författare :Kristina Sundqvist; Karin Wiberg; Mats Tysklind; Paul Geladi; Miriam Diamond; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; air-water gas exchange; chiral; congener pattern; enantiomer; enantiomeric fraction; fugacity; HCH; hexachlorocyclohexane; homologue profile; indicator congener; isomer pattern; pattern analysis; PCA; PCB; PCDD F; PMF; polychlorinated dibenzofuran; polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin; polychlorinated biphenyl; positive matrix factorization; principal component analysis; receptor modeling; source apportioning; source; source tracing; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Persistent organic compounds; Persistenta organiska föreningar;

    Sammanfattning : In the studies underlying this thesis, various source tracing techniques were applied to environmental samples from the Baltic region. Comprehensive sampling and analysis of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in surface sediments in Swedish coastal and offshore areas resulted in a unique data set for this region.     Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; POPs; PCB; DDT; PBDE; HCH; metabolites; human exposure; children s exposure; placental transfer; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Humans are continuously exposed to complex mixtures of anthropogenic chemicals. This thesis focus on human exposure to persistent organic pollutants (POPs). POPs ability to bioaccumulate and biomagnify together with the extensive historical use of POPs in e.g. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Application of two dimensional compound specific carbon-chlorine isotope analyses for degradation monitoring and assessment of organic pollutants in contaminated soil and groundwater

    Författare :Charline Wiegert; Örjan Gustafsson; Thomas Hofstetter; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organochlorines; chlorinated ethenes; PCE; TCE; hexachlorocyclohexanes; soil contamination; groundwater contamination; remediation; natural attenuation; biodegradation; carbon isotopes; chlorine isotopes; CSIA; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Nearly 250,000 sites with past and present potentially polluting activities need urgent remediation within Europe. Major pollutants include organochlorines (OCls), e.g. chlorinated ethenes (CEs) and hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), mainly used as industrial solvents and pesticides, respectively. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Occurrence and fate of emerging and legacy flame retardants : from indoor environments to remote areas

    Författare :Seth Newton; Cynthia de Wit; Ulla Sellström; Matthew MacLeod; Roland Kallenborn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Flame retardant; emerging; legacy; polybrominated diphenyl ethers; PBDE; HBCDD; long range transport; dust; air; soil; atmospheric deposition; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are toxic chemicals that can be found in various matrices in all corners of the planet, including remote areas such as the Arctic.  Several POPs are known and monitored but given the abundance of new chemicals in commerce about which little is known, chemicals that may be new POPs are constantly being screened for. 5. 5. Enantiospecific Analysis and Environmental Behavior of Chiral Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)

    Författare :Karin Wiberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Many persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are chiral. These pollutants are generally released into the environment as racemates, but frequently undergo alterations in enantiomeric composition as soon as they are subjected to life chemistry processes. LÄS MER
