2. Prevalance and prevention of sexually transmitted viral infections in the Bolivian Amazonas
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the prevalence of sexually transmitted viral infections in women living in the Amazonas region of Bolivia and explores whether Bolivian medical plants can affect the immune system and prevent or treat infections with Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) and inflammation. My PhD project was financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), and I did my work alternately in Bolivia and in Sweden. LÄS MER
3. Building a coherent hydro-climatic modelling framework for the data limited Kilombero Valley of Tanzania
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores key aspects for synthesizing data across spatiotemporal scales relevant for water resources management in an Eastern Africa context. Specifically, the potential of large scale global precipitation datasets (GPDs) in data limited regions to overcome spatial and temporal data gaps is considered. LÄS MER
4. Hydrological Modeling for Climate Change Impact Assessment : Transferring Large-Scale Information from Global Climate Models to the Catchment Scale
Sammanfattning : A changing climate can severely perturb regional hydrology and thereby affect human societies and life in general. To assess and simulate such potential hydrological climate change impacts, hydrological models require reliable meteorological variables for current and future climate conditions. LÄS MER
5. Immune modulation in chronic HBV and HCV infection
Sammanfattning : Chronic viral hepatitis is a major health problem worldwide. The two major viral causes for chronic hepatitis are the hepatitis B (HBV) and C viruses (HCV). HBV is a DNA virus with a rather limited genetic variability whereas HCV is an RNA virus with a high genetic variability. LÄS MER
