16. 5-Fluorouracil mediated cell death signaling in colon carcinoma cells
Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common form of cancer in the world. 5- Fluorouracil (5-FU) belongs to the fluoropyrimidine-type of drugs and is commonly used in the treatment of several solid tumors. It has become the mainstay of CRC treatment at stage III and high risk stage II, either alone or in combination with other drugs. LÄS MER
17. Cellular responses to the DNA damaging cytolethal distending toxin
Sammanfattning : Cytolethal distending toxin (CDT) is a genotoxin, which belongs to a group of bacterial protein toxins called cyclomodulins. These are characterized by their interference with the eukaryotic cell cycle. CDT causes DNA damage, which induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. LÄS MER
18. Dendritic cells in the development of antimicrobial immunity : studies on Epstein-Barr virus and the Haemophilus ducreyi cytolethal distending toxin
Sammanfattning : Dendritic cell (DC) plays a pivotal role in both innate and adaptive immunity, we studied the inhibitory effect of pathogens on the development and maturation of monocyte derived DCs, with special emphasis on the effect of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and Haemophilus ducreyi cytolethal distending toxin (HdCDT). Results demonstrate that EBV infection of monocytes inhibits their development into dendritic cells by interfering their responsiveness to granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and interleukin (IL)-4. 19. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons : DNA damage and cell signaling
Sammanfattning : Oxidative stress is a threat to our wellbeing. The formation of reactive oxygen species may result in oxidative lesions in DNA and RNA. When challenging A549 cells with 18O-labeled hydrogen peroxide, we found that RNA was between 14-25 times more sensitive to [18O]-8-oxoGuo formation than [18O]-8-oxodGuo formation in DNA. LÄS MER
20. Genotoxic stress : novel biomarkers and detection methods : uncovering RNAs role in epigenetics of carcinogenesis
Sammanfattning : Background: Cancer is a complex disease that is caused by the interplay of multiple genes and diverse environmental factors. As such, there has been continual debate as to which component of this complicated process towards development of neoplasia plays the most important role. LÄS MER
