1. Measurements of the DNA double-strand break response
Sammanfattning : Radiotherapy and some chemotherapeutic drugs kill cancer cells by induction of the extremely toxic DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs). Measurements of the DSB response in patients during therapy could allow personalized dosing to improve tumor response and minimize side effects. LÄS MER
2. Recognition and signaling of DNA double-strand breaks in human cells
Sammanfattning : DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) are the most toxic type of DNA damage. Fortunately, our cells have highly conserved pathways that detect and repair DSBs. Defects in DSB signaling and DSB repair pathways result in genomic instability that predisposes for cancer development. LÄS MER
3. Induction and repair of DNA double-strand breaks in human cells exposed to different radiation qualities
Sammanfattning : Radiation therapy is used in attempting to kill tumor cells by inducing DNA double- strand breaks (DSB), the most critical DNA lesions. Recent and planned radiation therapy strategies use high-linear energy transfer (LET) radiation to effectively treat malignant tumors. LÄS MER
4. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons : DNA damage and cell signaling
Sammanfattning : Oxidative stress is a threat to our wellbeing. The formation of reactive oxygen species may result in oxidative lesions in DNA and RNA. When challenging A549 cells with 18O-labeled hydrogen peroxide, we found that RNA was between 14-25 times more sensitive to [18O]-8-oxoGuo formation than [18O]-8-oxodGuo formation in DNA. LÄS MER
5. The exosome and the maintenance of genome integrity
Sammanfattning : The RNA exosome acts on different RNA substrates and plays important roles in RNA metabolism. The fact that short non-coding RNAs are involved in the DNA damage response led us to investigate whether the exosome plays a role in DNA repair. LÄS MER
