1. Radiological measurements in total hip arthroplasty
Sammanfattning : Every year, about 1 million patients worldwide and 20000 patients in Sweden undergo total hip arthroplasty (THA). This type of operation is considered a successful, safe and cost-effective procedure to regain mobility and restore hip joint function in patients suffering from severe hip joint disease or trauma. 2. Osteoarthritis. Epidemiologic and genetic aspects
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study was to (I) assess the association between body mass index (BMI) and total hip replacement (THR) and total knee replacement (TKR) due to osteoarthritis (OA), (II) assess the association between the mechanical load of work and THR and TKR due to OA, (III) evaluate the natural history of radiographic hip OA with regards to THR and hip fracture, (IV) to determine the prevalence of radiographic OA in patients with hip fracture, and (V) to examine and compare the inheritance patterns of THR for OA and hip fracture. OA was previously regarded as a consequence of the wear and tear the joint is subjected to during one’s lifetime. LÄS MER
3. Aspects on treatment of femoral neck fractures : studies on treatment methods, surgical approach and external validity
Sammanfattning : Femoral neck fracture (FNF) is a great challenge for today´s health care and is associated with high mortality and morbidity in the elderly. In the short term several studies in the literature have demonstrated improved hip function, quality of life and fewer re-operations in elderly patients treated with total hip arthroplasty (THA) instead of internal fixation (IF). 4. Leg length discrepancy and femoral offset after total hip arthroplasty : clinical and radiological studies
Sammanfattning : Every year, about 1 million patients worldwide and 16000 patients in Sweden undergo total hip arthroplasty (THA). This surgical intervention is considered a successful, safe and cost-effective procedure to regain pain-free mobility and restore hip joint function in patients suffering from severe hip joint disease or trauma. 5. Clinical and experimental studies on wear and osteolysis in total joint replacement
Sammanfattning : Total hip arthroplasty is a very successful procedure. Despite this fact, however, a certain portion of patients has to be revised. One major reason for revision is the wear of the polyethylene leading to loosening and osteolysis. LÄS MER
