  1. 1. Down syndrome : Growth and endocrine impact

    Författare :Åsa Myrelid; Jan Gustafsson; Göran Annerén; Ann-Christine Lindgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Down syndrome; growth; growth charts; body proportions; growth hormone; thyroid function; metabolism; body composition; cognition; motor development; Downs syndrom; tillväxt; tillväxtkurvor; kroppsproportioner; tillväxthormon; sköldkörtelfunktion; metabolism; kroppssammansättning; kognitiv förmåga; motorisk utveckling; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Down syndrome (DS) is associated with psychomotor retardation, short stature and endocrine dysfunction. Statural growth is a well-known indicator of health. The growth in DS differs markedly from that of other children and there is a 20 cm reduction of final height as compared to target height. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Cardiovascular effects of growth hormone, IGF-I and growth hormone secretagogues

    Författare :Åsa Tivesten; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :cardiovascular system; growth hormone; insulin-like growth factor-I; growth hormone secretagogues; echocardiography.;

    Sammanfattning : Growth hormone (GH) may exert direct growth-promoting and metabolic actions on target tissues, but most of its effects are mediated by circulating (endocrine) or local (auto-/paracrine) insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I). The GH/IGF-I system has an important role during cardiac development and for maintaining the structure and function of the heart. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Growth Hormone in Athletes

    Författare :Christer Ehrnborg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Growth hormone; IGF-I; bone markers; doping; athletes; maximum exercise test; variability; supraphysiological; body composition; physical performance; IGFBP-4; IGFBP-5;

    Sammanfattning : Doping with growth hormone (GH) is a well-known problem both among elite athletes and among people training at gyms. It is mainly the anabolic and, to some extent, lipolytic effect of GH that is valued by its users. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Identification of novel growth hormone-regulated factors

    Författare :Björn Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Growth hormone; idiopathic short stature; growth hormone deficient; prepubertal; children; genomic; proteomic;

    Sammanfattning : The studies described in this thesis aimed to identify novel factors involved in the regulation of longitudinal growth and bone mineralization in response to growth hormone (GH) treatment. This was done by performing a single factor study (Paper I) where it was found that growth response was negatively correlated with adiponectin levels during the first year of GH treatment in short prepubertal children. 5. 5. Effects of growth hormone on bone tissue in transgenic mice

    Författare :Jonas Sandstedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone; bone; ovariectomy; orchidectomy; growth; Interleukin-6; titanium; transgenic mice;

    Sammanfattning : Growth hormone (GH) affect bone-tissue in both humans and rodents. Also sex steroids are important for growth and the maintenance of normal bone physiology. The specific aims of this study were to investigate how high levels of GH affects bone tissue in mice and to determine whether these effects are dependent on an intact gonadal function. LÄS MER
