1. Murine B lymphocyte growth regulation : a study of host defence factors and their mimicry by Mycoplasma arginini
Sammanfattning : Immune responses are the result of extended clonal growth and maturation of specific precursors preexisting in low frequencies. Clonal expansion is partly controlled by soluble factors, thus, their identification is essential for the understanding of the immune response regulation. LÄS MER
2. On costochondral grafts replacing mandibular condyles in juvenile chronic arthritis. A clinical, histological and experimental study
Sammanfattning : In children with juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA), disturbances of mandibular growth and function may result in involvement of the temporomandibular joints (TMJs). The aim of this thesis was to study the stomatognathic system in JCA children and long-term effects on facial growth of treatment comprising replacement of arthritic mandibular condyles with autogenous costochondral grafts (CCGs) during growth. 3. Genetic Analysis of Quantitative Traits Using Domestic Animals : A Candidate Gene and Genome Scanning Approach
Sammanfattning : Domestication has led to genetic changes that affect quantitative traits in farm animals. Both candidate gene analysis using association tests and genome scans based on linkage analysis have been performed to understand the molecular basis underlying quantitative genetic variation in horses, pigs and chickens. 4. Growth hormone in the brain : Focus on cognitive function
Sammanfattning : Cognitive impairments are an increasing health problem worldwide. In the developed countries, the average life expectancy has dramatically increased over the last decades, and with an elderly population more cases of cognitive impairments appear. LÄS MER
5. Growth Hormone and Gender. Studies in Healthy Adults and in Patients with Growth Hormone Disorders
Sammanfattning : The use of a new, more sensitive immunoassay for growth hormone (GH) revealed that the serum levels in men were lower than expected in sera drawn ambulatory in the morning after an overnight fast and that the gender difference was more than 10 times greater than reported. These observations led to a more thorough study on the impact of gender and sex steroids on the levels of GH and other hormones in ambulatory morning samples and over a 24-hour period. LÄS MER
