  1. 1. Radionuclides in the Baltic Sea : Ecosystem models and experiments on transport and fate

    Författare :Linda Kumblad; Nils Kautsky; Ulrik Kautsky; Michael Gilek; Michael Thorne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; radionuclide; baltic sea; ecosystem model; ecosystem dynamics; risk assessment; safety assessment; benthic invertebrates; bioturbation; bioaccumulation; remobilisation; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Manmade radionuclides have been introduced to the environment for almost a century. The main source has been the nuclear weapons testing programmes, but accidental releases from the nuclear power production industries have also contributed. The risk to humans from potential releases from nuclear facilities is evaluated in safety assessments. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fluxes and Mixing Processes in the Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer

    Författare :Erik Olof Nilsson; Anna Rutgersson; Harm Jonker; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Waves; Growing sea; Swell; Marine boundary layer; Air-sea interaction; Mixing; Momentum flux; Wind stress; Flux attenuation; Sensor separation; Large eddy simulation; Multiresolution analysis; Coupling; Wave model; Climate model; Wave age; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : Atmospheric models are strongly dependent on the turbulent exchange of momentum, sensible heat and moisture (latent heat) at the surface. Oceans cover about 70% of the Earth’s surface and understanding the processes that control air-sea exchange is of great importance in order to predict weather and climate. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Microalgae : future bioresource of the sea?

    Författare :Martin Olofsson; Catherine Legrand; Jukka Seppälä; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microalgae; algal cultivation; bioresource; bioenergy; CO2 mitigation; multi-species community approach; seasonal variation; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; Environmental technology; Miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Unicellular microalgae are a renewable bioresource that can meet the challenge forfood and energy in a growing world population. Using sunlight, CO2, nutrients,and water, algal cells produce biomass in the form of sugars, proteins and oils, allof which carry commercial value as food, feed and bioenergy. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Sea cages, seaweeds and seascapes : Causes and consequences of spatial links between aquaculture and ecosystems

    Författare :Nils Hedberg; Tedengren Michael; Nils Kautsky; Barry Costa-Pierce; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Spatial links; Aquaculture; Coral Reefs; Seagrass; Seascape; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : Aquaculture is of growing importance in the global seafood production. The environmental impact of aquaculture will largely depend on the type of environment in which the aquaculture system is placed. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Ethical Adaptation to Sea Level Rise: The Planner’s Perspective

    Författare :Anna Wedin; Karin Edvardsson Björnberg; Per Wikman-Svahn; Neelke Doorn; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; adaptation; climate change; sea level rise; local planning; ethics; empirical ethics; planning for uncertainty; Filosofi; Philosophy;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses local adaptation to climate change-induced sea level rise, taking an ethical perspective and focusing at the role of planning and the planner. The research, which has been conducted within a transdisciplinary research project, takes a bottom-up approach to applied ethics, and relies to a great extent on empirical data. LÄS MER
