  1. 1. Effects of deep excavations in soft clay on the immediate sourroundings-Analysis of the possibility to predict deformations and reactions against the retaining system

    Författare :Anders Kullingsjö; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MIT-S1; Sheet pile wall; Soil-structure interaction; Strain; Stress; Ground surface settlement; Finite element method; Case history; Shear test; Shear strength; Pore pressure; Analysis; Constitutive models; Plane strain; Elastoplasticity; Laboratory tests; Factor of safety; Stiffness; e-ADP; Earth pressure; Anisotropy; Soft Clay; Deep excavation; Retaining wall; Shear stress; Deformation;

    Sammanfattning : When excavating in an urban environment, the evaluation of the magnitude and distribution of ground movements is an important part of the design process, since excessive movements can damage adjacent buildings and utilities. In order to minimize movement of the surrounding soil, a retaining wall support system is used for deep excavations to provide lateral support. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Risk Estimation of Groundwater Drawdown in Subsidence Sensitive Areas

    Författare :Jonas Sundell; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; uncertainty quantification; urban hydrogeology; pore pressure reduction; subsidence; geostatistics; groundwater leakage; soft soil; groundwater drawdown; spatial variability; settlement; probabilistic; risk assessment;

    Sammanfattning : Groundwater drawdown induced ground subsidence is a severe problem in many regions around the world. Leakage of groundwater into a sub-surface construction, resulting in drawdown and subsequent subsidence, can lead to immense damage costs on buildings and installations in urban areas. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Ground Improvement by Dry Deep Mixing Lime-Cement Column Panels as Excavation Support

    Författare :Razvan Ignat; Stefan Larsson; Sadek Baker; Sven Liedberg; Masaki Kitazume; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Many urban areas near the coastal regions of Sweden are characterized by post-glacial clay deposits with very low undrained shear strength and high compressibility. Column type ground improvement by the Deep Mixing, DM, method using a binder mixture of lime and cement is commonly used in areas with poor soil conditions due to its cost-effectiveness, predominantly for settlement reduction and to improve the stability of embankments. 4. 4. Deformation Behavior of Lime/Cement Column Stabilized Clay

    Författare :Sadek Baker; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Deep stabilization of clay with lime/cement columns has lately become one of the most frequent methods for improvement of soft clays. The method is cost effective, as it results in a drastic reduction of settlement. The theories used for design were originally developed for lime columns. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Long Term Settlements in Soft Clays

    Författare :Peter Claesson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; calculation model; settlements; stress-strain-strain rate; consolidation; deep layers; case records; creep; lightly overconsolidated soft clay;

    Sammanfattning : When structures are founded on deep layers of lightly overconsolidated, soft clay large settlement often occur during a long period of time after completion of the structure. Therefore it is of major importance to be able to calculate and predict the expected settlements with a satisfactory degree of accuracy, as this has a great impact on the design of the foundation and the possible need for soil improvements.
