  1. 1. Gas Exchange over Aquatic Interfaces and its Importance for Greenhouse Gas Emission

    Författare :Jovana Kokic; Sebastian Sobek; Erik Sahlée; Marcus B. Wallin; Anne Ojala; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; gas exchange; lake; stream; lake sediment; headwaters; carbon dioxide; methane; greenhouse gas emission; carbon; turbulence; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : Aquatic ecosystems play a substantial role in global cycling of carbon (C), despite covering only about 4% of the earth surface. They emit large amounts of greenhouse gases (GHG) to the atmosphere, comparable to the amount of C stored annually in terrestrial ecosystems. In addition, C can be buried in lake sediments. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Effects of forest management on greenhouse gas fluxes in a boreal forest

    Författare :Patrik Vestin; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :Forest management; Greenhouse gas fluxes; Clear-cutting; Thinning; Stump harvesting; Selective cutting; Eddy-covariance; Flux-gradient; Greenhouse gas budgets; CO2; CH4; N2O;

    Sammanfattning : Forest ecosystems cover 31% of the terrestrial land area and store large amounts of carbon in biomass and in soils. The 2015 Paris Agreement recognizes the importance of sinks and reservoirs of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in forests and the importance of enhancing them through sustainable forest management policies. 3. 3. Power to gas : Bridging renewable electricity to the transport sector

    Författare :Farzad Mohseni; Per Alvfors; Mats Westermark; Lars Pettersson; Maria Grahn; Björn Frostell; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transport; renewable electricity; synthetic fuels; energy; power to gas;

    Sammanfattning : Globally, transport accounts for a significant part of the total energy utilization and is heavily dominated by fossil fuels. The main challenge is how the greenhouse gas emissions in road transport can be addressed. Moreover, the use of fossil fuels in road transport makes most countries or regions dependent on those with oil and/or gas assets. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Land use effects on greenhouse gas emissions from boreal inland waters

    Författare :Marcus Klaus; Jan Karlsson; Peter Staehr; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; greenhouse gas; boreal forest; carbon cycling; whole-ecosystem experiment; limnology; metabolism; forest clearcutting; nitrogen enrichment;

    Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic activities perturb the global carbon and nitrogen cycle with large implications for the earth’s climate. Land use activities deliver excess carbon and nitrogen to aquatic ecosystems. In the boreal biome, this is mainly due to forestry and atmospheric deposition. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Peatlands at a Threshold: Greenhouse Gas Dynamics in a Changing Climate

    Författare :Magnus Lund; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chamber; greenhouse gas; nitrous oxide; methane; carbon dioxide; carbon; bog; Peatland; mire; eddy covariance; nitrogen; phosphorus; fertilization;

    Sammanfattning : To be able to predict the strength of climate change and its consequences for mankind, it is of major importance to understand the contemporary greenhouse gas exchange of the terrestrial biosphere, as well as its response to changes in climate. To achieve such understanding both descriptive studies and manipulation experiments are required. LÄS MER
