1. Approximation of pluricomplex Green functions : A probabilistic approach
Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis focuses on probabilistic methods of approximation of pluricomplex Green functions and is based on four papers. The thesis begins with a general introduction to the use of pluricomplex Green functions in multidimensional complex analysis and a review of their main properties. 2. PIV in Practice
Sammanfattning : Experimental fluid mechanics has for a long time been used to visualize flow phenomenonqualitatively. Traditionally, visualization has been done with dye or tracer particle dueto their ability to follow the flow pattern well. LÄS MER
3. Particle image velocimetry in practice
Sammanfattning : Experimental fluid mechanics has for a long time been used to visualize flow phenomenon. An early pioneer was Ludwig Prandtl who used aluminum particles in water flumes to describe the flow in a qualitative manner. In line with the rapid development of Computational Fluid Dynamics, CFD, the need for new validation tools has increased. LÄS MER
4. Histone H1 : Subtypes and phosphorylation in cell life and death
Sammanfattning : The genetic information of a human diploid cell is contained within approximately 2 metres of linear DNA. The DNA molecules are compacted and organized in various ways to fit inside the cell nucleus. Various kinds of histones are involved in this compaction. One of these histones, histone H1 is the topic of the present thesis. LÄS MER
5. Prognostic markers in acute myeloid leukemia : A candidate gene approach
Sammanfattning : The standard treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) consists of induction chemotherapy, most commonly daunorubicin together with the nucleoside analogue cytarabine (Ara-C), followed by consolidation chemotherapy and in selected cases allogenic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT). Despite a high initial response rate, a considerable proportion of all AML cases eventually suffer from relapse and the five-year overall survival rate in patients >60 years is only around 15%.
