1. On Bit-Wise Decoders for Coded Modulation
Sammanfattning : Coded modulation is a technique that emerged as a response to the growing demand for high data rates. It was devised to achieve high spectral efficiency with high reliability, potentially approaching Shannon’s capacity. The main idea of coded modulation consists in combining error-correcting coding with higher-order modulation. LÄS MER
2. Towards Fully Optimized BICM Transmissions
Sammanfattning : Bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) was introduced in 1992 as a new coded modulation (CM) scheme particularly well suited for fading channels and is nowadays considered the de facto CM scheme in wireless standards (HSPA, IEEE 802.11a/g/n, DVB-T2/S2/C2, etc.). LÄS MER
3. Using Multicoloured Halftone Screens for Offset Print Quality Monitoring
Sammanfattning : In the newspaper printing industry, offset is the dominating printing method and the use of multicolour printing has increased rapidly in newspapers during the last decade. The offset printing process relies on the assumption that an uniform film of ink of right thickness is transferred onto the printing areas. LÄS MER
4. Compact Representations and Multi-cue Integration for Robotics
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents methods useful in a bin picking application, such as detection and representation of local features, pose estimation and multi-cue integration. The scene tensor is a representation of multiple line or edge segments and was first introduced by Nordberg in [30]. 5. On the labeling of Signal Constellations
Sammanfattning : The work in this thesis studies a simple model of a digital communication system in which the transmitter operates on a sequence of information bits by grouping them into blocks of m bits and mapping such blocks onto one out of M = 2m waveforms, which is transmitted over the channel. The receiver recovers the original message by demapping the transmitted signals disturbed by noise back to m-bit blocks using maximum-likelihood symbol detection. LÄS MER
