21. Regulation of innate and acquired immunity in infants by commensal bacteria
Sammanfattning : The incidence of atopic diseases in children is steadily increasing in the industrialised world along with an improved hygienic lifestyle. The gastrointestinal flora may be of specific importance for the proper maturation of the immune system and for the induction of tolerance, in which CD25+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) play a crucial role. 22. Membrane-bound thiol-disulfide oxidoreductases in Bacillus subtilis
Sammanfattning : Disulfide bonds in proteins are found between cysteine residues and are usually important for either function or stability of proteins. Thiol-disulfide oxidoreductases catalyse the formation or breakage of disulfide bonds in proteins. LÄS MER
23. Deoxyribonucleoside kinases in bacteria, plants and humans
Sammanfattning : Deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates (dNTPs) are the building blocks of DNA and can be synthesized either de novo or via salvage pathways. The first reaction in the salvage pathway of dNTPs is the conversion of deoxyribonucleosides (dN) into the deoxyribonucleoside monophosphate (dNMP). LÄS MER
24. Pharmacodynamic effects of antibiotics : studies on bacterial morphology, initial killing, postantibiotic effect and effecitive regrowth time
Sammanfattning : Pharmacodynamics of antibiotics deals with time course of drug activity and mechanisms of action of drugs on bacteria. In this thesis pharmacodynamic parameters have been studied after brief exposure of gram-positive bacteria to daptomycin, imipenem or vancomycin and after short exposure of gram-negative bacteria to amikacin, ampicillin, aztreonam, cefepime, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, ceftriaxone, cefuroxime, imipenem, mecillinal,11, or piperacillin. 25. Heme A synthase from Bacillus subtilis and Aeropyrum pernix
Sammanfattning : Respiration in animals, plants and many bacteria is dependent on heme A, which functions as a prosthetic group in a-type cytochromes (terminal energy-transducing oxidases in the electron transport chain that reduce molecular oxygen to water). Heme A synthase catalyses a chemically very demanding reaction, the conversion of one specific methyl side-group of heme O to a formyl group of heme A. LÄS MER
