  1. 1. Inflammatory mediator response to Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria in vitro and in middle ear infections

    Författare :Susann Skovbjerg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Gram-positive; Gram-negative; bacteria; cytokines; monocytes macrophages; phagocytosis; Streptococcus pneumoniae; autolysin; acute otitis media; secretory otitis media; children; probiotics;

    Sammanfattning : Based on the structure of the cell wall, bacteria are divided into Gram-positive and Gram-negative. While the cell wall of Gram-positive bacteria is thick, the cell wall of Gram-negatives is very thin and surrounded by an outer membrane with LPS. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mast cells in bacterial infections

    Författare :Elin Rönnberg; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells are implicated in immunity towards bacterial infection, but the molecular mechanisms by which mast cells contribute to the host response are only partially understood. Previous studies have examined how mast cells react to purified bacterial cell wall components, such as peptidoglycan and lipopolysaccharide. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Surface proteins of Finegoldia magna interacting with the human host

    Författare :Christofer Karlsson; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Finegoldia magna; Gram-positive anaerobic cocci; surface proteins; protease; LL-37; MIG CXCL9; Fibrinogen; adhesion; gene disruption; bacterial aggregation; basement membranes;

    Sammanfattning : Finegoldia magna is a Gram-positive anaerobe and a member of the normal human microflora. This bacterium is also an opportunistic pathogen and isolated from ~10% of all anaerobic infections. Reoccurring taxonomical changes and the anaerobic growth have contributed to the neglect of F. magna. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Towards Anti-Virulence Antimicrobials, Discovery and Development of Sortase A Inhibitors and Investigations of Bacterial Phenotypes

    Författare :Patrick M. Wehrli; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sortase A; SrtA; Inhibitors; Anti-virulence; Bacterial analysis; FTIR spectroscopy; Bacterial phenotyping; Design of Experiment; Multivariate Data Analysis; PCA; ToF-SIMS; Time-of-flight secondary-ion-mass-spectrometry; Lipid analysis; ppGpp; Stringent response;

    Sammanfattning : Antibiotic resistance is an emerging and serious threat to public health. Immediate actions are required to preserve current antibiotics while intensifying research efforts towards the development of new effective therapeutics. LÄS MER

  5. 5. NMR Studies of Bacterial Albumin-Binding Modules

    Författare :Maria U Johansson; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Physical chemistry; three-helix bundle; protein structure; protein PAB; protein-protein interactions; protein G; protein dynamics; NMR; module shuffling; GA module; evolution; albumin-binding; bacterial surface proteins;

    Sammanfattning : Peptostreptococcus magnus and group C/G streptococci are Gram-positive cocci that are part of the normal flora and reside in more or less the same locations in the host. Protein G of group C/G streptococci was originally described as binding IgGFc of several species and later shown to also bind human serum albumin and albumins from various animal species. LÄS MER
