  1. 1. Protein and mRNA Studies of Rat FA1/Pref-1/dlk

    Författare :Gabriella Persdotter Hedlund; Jann Hau; Carina Carlsson; Torgny Stigbrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Laboratory animals; Preadipocyte factor 1; delta like protein; Fetal antigen 1; Goto-Kakizaki; Zucker; adipokines; adipose tissue; diabetes; obesity; Försöksdjursvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The timing of cell differentiation is important for development and renewal of well functioning organs and tissues. One protein involved in this process is Preadipocyte factor 1 (Pref-1). Most likely, the role of this protein is to maintain cells in an undifferentiated state. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Dissecting the role of micro-RNAs in diabetes

    Författare :Caroline Bolmeson; Create Health; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; Type 2 diabetes; micro-RNA; Dicer; beta-cell function; insulin secretion; glucose; NOD mouse; Goto-Kakizaki rat; human islets; thymocytes; apoptosis;

    Sammanfattning : The role of miRNAs in pancreatic islets and β-cell function and in the development of diabetes in human and rodents have been investigated in this thesis. Dicer1 was specifically deleted in vivo in pancreatic β-cells under the RIP-promoter in mice. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mechanisms of impaired insulin release in type-2 diabetes : studies in the GK rat model

    Författare :Amel Guenifi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Goto-Kakizaki GK rat; Type-2 diabetes; insulin secretion; morphometry; adenylyl cyclase AC ; phospholipase-C PLC ; ß-cell;

    Sammanfattning : Type-2 diabetes is a complex syndrome with a polygenic and multifactorial aetiology. It is characterised by its relatively late appearance in life and its mild progressive course. Glucose intolerance can generally be ascribed to disturbed pancreatic hormonal secretion and/or insulin resistance in the liver and extrahepatic tissues. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Genetic dissection of multifactorial disease models in the rat

    Författare :Hong Jiao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Type 2 daibetes; Goto-Kakizaki rat; linkage analysis; quantitative trait locus; gene-gene interaction; mitochondrial sequence; parent-of-origin;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is characterized by two apparently distinct pathophysiologic defects - insulin resistance and a failure of the pancreatic Beta-cells to compensate for this resistance by appropriately increasing insulin secretion. There is strong evidence for an important role of genetics in both of these components. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Diabetic osteopathy : a study in the rat

    Författare :Tashfeen Ahmad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Diabetes mellitus type 2; Goto-Kakizaki rat; bone mineral density; insulin-like growth factor-I; insulin-like growth factor binding protein 1; insulin-like growth factor binding protein 4; peripheral neuropathy; substance P; calcitonin gene-related peptide; neuropeptide Y; Diabetes mellitus type 2;

    Sammanfattning : The present study on non-obese Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rats with type-2 diabetes and neuropathy was an attempt to describe and define pertinent features of diabetic osteopathy. Altogether, the study included 33 GK rats aged 12 and 20 months, and 36 age-matched Wistar rats as controls. LÄS MER
