  1. 11. Early detection of major surgical postoperative complications evaluated by microdialysis

    Författare :Tal Hörer; Kjell Janson; Lars Norgren; Bengt Jeppsson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; aortic occlusion balloon; anastomotic leakage; glycerol; intraabdominal hypertension; intraperitoneal microdialysis; intestinal ischemia; intraabdominal metabolism; lactate pyruvate ratio; postoperative complications; ruptured abdominal aortic anerusym; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Major abdominal surgery may be followed by postoperative complications, especially in the elderly and patients with co morbidities as diabetes mellitus and obesity. Some of the most feared complications as anastomotic leakage, abdominal infections, abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) and intestinal ischemia can lead to sepsis, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) with high morbidity and mortality. 2. 12. Bio-based C-3 Platform Chemical: Biotechnological Production and -Conversion of 3-Hydroxypropionaldehyde

    Författare :Roya Rezaei; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lactobacillus reuteri; 3-hydroxypropionic acid; biotransformation; Glycerol; 3-hydroxypropionaldehyde; In situ complexation;

    Sammanfattning : Demands for efficient, greener, economical and sustainable production of chemicals, materials and energy have led to development of industrial biotechnology as a key technology area to provide such products from bio-based raw materials from agricultural-, forestry- and related industrial residues and by-products. For the bio-based industry, it is essential to develop a number of building blocks or platform chemicals for C2-C6 chemicals and even aromatic chemicals. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Humectants and skin : effects of hydration from molecule to man

    Författare :Cathrine Albèr; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :skin; stratum corneum; hydration; hyaluronan; glycerol; urea;

    Sammanfattning : Humectants belong to a group of hydrophilic compounds frequently used in skin care products with the aim to diminish the clinical symptom of skin dryness. The biochemical and biophysical mechanisms by which humectants interact with the skin barrier are far from fully understood. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Skin hydration - How water and osmolytes influence biophysical properties of stratum corneum

    Författare :Sebastian Björklund; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stratum corneum; diffusive transport; permeability; flow-through cell; Franz cell; transdermal drug delivery; water activity; vapor pressure; osmotic gradient; relative humidity; ceramide; free fatty acid; cholesterol; keratin filaments; natural moisturizing factor NMF ; urea; glycerol; molecular mobility; 13C natural-abundance solid-state NMR; polarization transfer; isothermal calorimetry; impedance spectroscopy; X-ray diffraction;

    Sammanfattning : The outermost layer of skin (i.e., the stratum corneum, SC) is the interface that separates the water-rich inside of the body from the relatively dry external environment. SC forms an effective permeability barrier, which has to be overcome in transdermal drug delivery. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Analysis and Control of Continuous Microaerobic Ethanol Production by Yeast

    Författare :Carl Johan Franzén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nitrogen limitation; ethanol; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; glycerol; metabolic flux analysis; oxygen limitation; stoichiometric model; yeast physiology; RQ control;

    Sammanfattning : Glucose fermentation by Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and xylose fermentation by Candida utilis and Pichia stipitis, were investigated under microaerobic conditions. A dynamic experimental method named oxygen programmed fermentation (OPF), and a method for microaerobic RQ control in continuous culture have been developed. LÄS MER
