16. Modifying kraft pulping to produce a softwood pulp requiring less energy in tissue paper production
Sammanfattning : Modification of softwood kraft pulp by the addition of either polysulfide (PS) or sodium borohydride (NaBH4) has been shown to increase the pulp yield due to a higher retention of glucomannan. The pulps with higher yield gave a paper with higher tensile index than reference pulp, especially at lower degrees of refining. LÄS MER
17. Modelling of Kraft Cooking Kinetics Using Near Infrared Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : A kinetic model describing the kraft cooking degradation reactions for softwood lignin and carbohydrates was developed in this thesis. The model satisfactorily predicted the data for modified as well as conventional cooking schemes, something which eluded earlier published models. LÄS MER
18. Fungal cellulases: Study of hydrolytic properties of endoglucanases from Trichoderma reesei and Humicola insolens
Sammanfattning : Cellulose is one of the most abundant biopolymers on earth. Several organisms degrade cellulose, one of the most studied is the fungus Trichoderma reesei which produces seven genetically different cellulases. LÄS MER
19. Dissecting function and catalytic mechanism of fungal lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases
Sammanfattning : Fungi use a complex and well-orchestrated enzyme machinery to degrade lignocellulose biomass, in which both hydrolytic and redox enzymes are involved. Lytic polysaccharide monoxygenases (LPMOs) are copper-dependent enzymes that cleave bonds in polysaccharides using oxidative mechanisms. LÄS MER
20. Analysis of Degradation Products from Wood and Methods for Detoxification of Lignocellulose Hydrolysates
Sammanfattning : In order to produce fuel ethanol from lignocellulose, it is necessary to hydrolyse the sugar-containing constituents hemicellulose and cellulose. During acid hydrolysis, a number of compounds are formed or liberated in addition to the fermentable monomeric sugars. LÄS MER
