1. Challenges in Global Multi-Variant Serial Production - A Study of Manufacturing Engineering Processes
Sammanfattning : Global manufacturing companies have hard times to manage their global production networks as dispersion in their networks increases. Such dispersion is caused by the increasing level of product variety and more parameters to control as the networks grow. Handling product variety becomes more difficult as products become more complex and integrated. LÄS MER
2. Relationships between global operations networks and product architectures
Sammanfattning : Globalization has resulted in more segments and product configurations to meet the needs of various customers in different markets. For manufacturers to keep up, the operations footprint has become more global to source from the most appropriate suppliers but also have manufacturing sites in close proximity to the main local markets. 3. Harvesting from land and sea : Social relationships, trade networks, and spatial connectivity in changing social-ecological systems
Sammanfattning : In the era of global change, the connectivity of aquatic and terrestrial food production systems across spatial scales is increasing. At the same time, diverse actors that participate in food systems, from production to consumption, face the need to adapt their daily activities to an increasingly changing context. LÄS MER
4. Swahili Social Landscapes : Material expressions of identity, agency, and labour in Zanzibar, 1000–1400 CE
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the social and productive landscapes of Tumbatu and Mkokotoni, two neighbouring Swahili sites in the Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania, which are dated to the 11th to 15th centuries CE. Emerging on the East African coast around the 7th century CE, the Swahili culture has traditionally been associated with vast Indian Ocean trade networks, stone towns, and a cosmopolitan hierarchical Islamic society, within which social status was negotiated through imported prestige goods and stone architecture. 5. Coordinating Digital Transformation in International Manufacturing Networks
Sammanfattning : Manufacturing companies have adapted to globalisation and collected their globally dispersed factories into factory networks, known as international manufacturing networks (IMNs). This requires coordination to access the associated competitive advantages, synchronise the factories, and exploit the capabilities inherent in those individual factories. LÄS MER
