  1. 1. Global-Scale Modelling of the Land-Surface Water Balance : Development and Analysis of WASMOD-M

    Författare :Elin Widén-Nilsson; Sven Halldin; Chong-yu Xu; Lars-Christer Lundin; Jens Christian Refsgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Hydrology; Global; Water balance; Runoff; Regionalisation; Model uncertainty; Multi-objective; Parameter; Evaluation criteria; Routing; Climate change; Hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Water is essential for all life on earth. Global population increase and climate change are projected to increase the water stress, which already today is very high in many areas of the world. The differences between the largest and smallest global runoff estimates exceed the highest continental runoff estimates. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Where are the world’s disease patterns heading? : The challenges of epidemiological transition

    Författare :Ailiana Santosa; Peter Byass; Ulf Högberg; Joacim Rocklöv; Sarah Wild; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiological transition; premature mortality; non-communicable disease; risk factors; Sweden; low-and middle-income countries; INDEPTH Network; Västerbotten Intervention Programme; Public health; folkhälsa;

    Sammanfattning : INTRODUCTION: Epidemiological transition theory, first postulated by Omran in 1971, provides a useful framework for understanding cause-specific mortality changes and may contribute usefully to predictions about cause-specific mortality. However, understandings of mortality transitions and associated epidemiological changes remain poorly defined for public health practitioners due to lack of evidence from low- and middle-income countries. 3. 3. Weather and extreme heat in association to mental disorders : The case of Hanoi, Vietnam

    Författare :Phan Minh Trang; Maria Nilsson; Joacim Rocklöv; Kim Bao Giang; Mare Löhmus Sundström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Depressive disorders; mental disorders; weather patterns; elevated temperature; and heatwaves.; Epidemiology; epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Vietnam suffers consequences of global warming. There is limited data of the relationship between weather, extreme heat and potential mental health problems. It is therefore crucial to study heat-related mental illnesses and to establish good solutions with relevant adaptations to global warming. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Exploring patterns of empirical networks

    Författare :Luis E C Rocha; Petter Holme; Kimmo Kaski; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; complex systems; complex networks; network analysis; empirical networks; air transportation; consumer complaints; information technology; sexual contacts; epidemics; vaccination; Statistical physics; Statistisk fysik; Computational physics; Beräkningsfysik; Technology and social change; Teknik och social förändring; Epidemiology; Epidemiologi; Information technology; Informationsteknik; fysik; Physics; Statistics; statistik; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : We are constantly struggling to understand how nature works, trying to identify recurrent events and looking for analogies and relations between objects or individuals. Knowing patterns of behavior is powerful and fundamental for survival of any species. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Gender equality and health experiences : workplace patterns in Northern Sweden

    Författare :Sofia Elwér; Anne Hammarström; Annika Härenstam; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gender equality; workplace; health experiences; focus groups; cluster analysis; gender; work environment; gender regimes; folkhälsa; Public health;

    Sammanfattning : Gendered practices of working life create gender inequalities through horizontal and vertical gender segregation in work, which may lead to gender inequalities in health experiences. The workplace is an important part of the social circumstances under which health opportunities and constraints are shaped. LÄS MER
