1. Constipation : symptoms and findings in relation to structural and functional abnormalities
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to increase the knowledge about functional constipation with special reference to symptoms analysis, laboratory investigations and histopathology findings. 155 consecutive patients with intractable constipation underwent anorectal manometry, electromyography (EMG), balloon expulsion test, colonic transit time, and defecography. 2. Dopamine neurons in ventral mesencephalon : interactions with glia and locus coeruleus
Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by a depletion of the dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. The cause of the disease is yet unknown but age, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation are some of the features involved in the degeneration. LÄS MER
3. Alzheimer Aβ peptides induce dysregulation of C/EBP and NF-кB in glial cells
Sammanfattning : Inflammation is believed to contribute to neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). AD in turn is believed to be a consequence of accumulated amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides, that subsequently form senile plaques, due to imbalance between production and clearance of Aβ. LÄS MER
4. Alpha-Synuclein Oligomers : Cellular Mechanisms and Aspects of Antibody Treatment
Sammanfattning : In Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), aggregated α-synuclein deposit inside cells within the brain. Smaller soluble α-synuclein aggregates, oligomers, are present both intra- and extracellularly. LÄS MER
5. Glial cell responses, complement and clusterin expression after lesions in central or peripheral nervous system
Sammanfattning : The present Thesis examines the expression and role of complement and the complement regulator clusterin after central or peripheral axon injury in relation to the responses of non-neuronal cells. Following peripheral sensory nerve injury, complement was expressed in the spinal cord and brain stem in association with reactive microglia, which also appeared to be a local source of complement.
