  1. 1. Laser treatment in glaucoma : efficacy and safety

    Författare :Erika Rasmuson; Gauti Jóhannesson; Christina Linden; Björn Lundberg; Mika Harju; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glaucoma; laser treatment; intraocular pressure; glaucoma treatment; glaukom; laserbehandling; ögontryck; glaukombehandling; oftalmiatrik; ophthalmology; oftalmiatrik; ophthalmology;

    Sammanfattning : Glaucoma is a progressive optic neuropathy and the major cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Although the pathogenesis of glaucoma is not completely understood, the most important risk factor for development and progression of the disease is an elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). LÄS MER

  2. 2. On Complications to Cataract Surgery

    Författare :Gunnar Jakobsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cataract surgery; pseudophakia; capsular rupture; retinal detachment; IOL dislocation; glaucoma; vitreous; immune mediators; immunoassay; cytokines;

    Sammanfattning : Cataract surgery, meaning exchange of the opaque lens in the eye with an artificial lens, is nowadays one of the most successful surgical procedures ever known. It is also the most frequent surgery performed in the Western world. In Sweden alone, more than 100,000 cataract operations are performed annually. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Advanced surgeries, medicines and materials for corneal regeneration

    Författare :Maria Xeroudaki; Neil Lagali; Beatrice Bourghardt Peebo; Per Fagerholm; Stefan Schrader; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Corneal transplantation is often the only treatment option in cases of corneal blindness, with the main challenges being the scarcity of human donors, risk for graft failure and suboptimal visual outcome due to suture-related issues. Alternative therapies are sought that either address the above transplantation issues directly or stimulate the cornea’s repair mechanism and regenerative properties to restore transparency without the need for transplantation. 4. 4. On the necessity of screening and national registration of congenital cataracts

    Författare :Gunilla Magnusson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :congenital cataract; glaucoma; intraocular surgery; posterior capsular opacification PCO ; prevalence; visual acuity VA ; visual impairment; screening; newborn examination; blindness prevention; cost-utility analysis; quality- adjusted life year QALY ;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: The overall aim of this thesis was to contribute to improvements in the management of congenital cataract by defining the most efficient screening procedure, examining the magnitude of the morbidity rate, optimizing the timing of surgery by relating surgical outcome to age at intervention and severity of visual deprivation and furthermore by evaluating costs versus consequences of introducing the most efficient screening procedure found, on a national basis.Methods: Paper I: 72 children born between 1992 and 1998 in the Stockholm County Council region, Västra Götaland and Halland county, Linköping-Motala, Malmö, and Lund, who had surgery for congenital cataract before the age of one year were included in a retrospective study. 5. 5. Intraocular pressure : clinical aspects and new measurement methods

    Författare :Gauti Jóhannesson; Christina Lindén; Per Hallberg; Anders Eklund; Boel Bengtsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intraocular pressure; glaucoma; tonometry; ISO; LASEK; CCT; curvature; Ophtalmiatrics; Oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology; oftalmiatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement is a routine procedure and a fundament in glaucoma care. Elevated IOP is the main risk factor for glaucoma, and to date, reduction of IOP is the only possible treatment. In a retrospective clinical material, the prevalence of open angle glaucoma was estimated on the west coast of Iceland. LÄS MER
