  1. 1. Salivary gland neoplasms : studies on the cytoskeleton, the secretory apparatus and the nuclear DNA content

    Författare :Hans Gustafsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Salivary gland neoplasms; intermediate filaments; immuno- histochemistry; ultrastructure; DNA; development; histogenesis; progno¬sis;

    Sammanfattning : The heterogeneity of salivary gland neoplasms have made classification and prognostication of these tumours sometimes difficult, and the introduction of techniques, such as enzyme and carbohydrate histochemistry and electron microscopy have only to a certain extent increased our knowledge in these respects. In the present study immunohistochemical methods have been used to identify intermediate filament proteins (IFP) in normal fetal and adult parotid glands, as well as in salivary neoplasms. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Gastric gland luminal pressure and mucosal protection : An in vivo study in the anesthetized rat

    Författare :Ingrid Synnerstad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; acid secretion; bicarbonate; epithelial cell surface pH; gastric gland; muscularismucosa; micropuncture; mucosal blood flow; mucus gel thickness; omeprazole; permeability; prostaglandins; ranitidine; rat; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The driving force for creation of channels in gastric mucus, for acid and pepsin transport, ismost probably the hydrostatic pressure generated within the gastric gland lumen. The aim ofthis study was to investigate the origin and regulation of the glandular pressure. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : A balanced tear film is essential for a healthy ocular surface. Insufficient tear production may result in dry eye, a common disorder in the elderly population. Dry eye causes significant discomfort in the patients and may lead to visual impairment and ocular infections. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Bioengineering and Cell-derived Strategies for Salivary Gland Regeneration

    Författare :Jiao DONG; Lungbioengineering och regeneration; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular vesicles; precision-cut tissue slices; histology scoring; sustainable histology; salivary gland; human dental pulp stem cells; extracellulära vesiklar; stamceller från mänsklig tandmassa; precisionsskurna vävnadsskivor; Spottkörtel; hållbar histologi och histologipoäng;

    Sammanfattning : Xerostomia (dry mouth symptoms) is a group of incurable debilitating conditions of salivary glands caused by aging, radiation/chemical exposure, or aberrant inflammation in the salivary glands. During this PhD thesis, we aimed to evaluate whether cell-derived strategies (e.g. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Inflammation-Induced Gene Expression in Brain and Adrenal Gland

    Författare :Linda Engström; Anders Blomqvist; Tomas Hökfelt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inflammation; brain; adrenal gland; stress; lipopolysaccharide; interleukin-1; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The autonomic nervous system serves to maintain a constant inner environment, a process termed homeostasis. Thus, in response to the homeostatic challenge posed by infectious agents, the autonomic nervous system answers to signals from the immune system and elicits adaptive physiological and behavioral reactions.
