  1. 1. Glacier-Ocean Interactions in the Arctic : Contemporary calving and frontal melt from field observations, remote sensing, and numerical modelling

    Författare :Felicity Alice Holmes; Nina Kirchner; Benedict T. I. Reinardy; Riko Noormets; Jason Briner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glacier-ocean interactions; Arctic; Calving; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Globally, glaciers are losing mass as a result of the changing climate, with this mass loss having a considerable societal impact through rising sea levels. Glaciers which terminate in the oceans are particularly vulnerable to changing external conditions as a result of high sensitivity at their marine margins. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Glaciers and climate in northern Sweden during the 19th and 20th century

    Författare :Per Klingbjer; Per Holmlund; Stig Jonsson; Anders Moberg; Georg Kaser; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :physical geography; climate; temperature; glacier; mass balance; jökulhlaup; responce time; photogrammetry;

    Sammanfattning : Our understanding of the climate of northern Sweden during the late Holocene is largely dependent on proxy-data series. These datasets remain spatially and temporally sparse and instrumental series are rare prior to the mid 19th century. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Response of glaciers to climate change : Mass balance sensitivity, sea level rise and runoff

    Författare :Mattias de Woul; Regine Hock; Peter Jansson; Margareta Hansson; Roger J. Braithwaite; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glacier; mass balance modelling; mass balance sensitivity; sea level rise; glacial runoff; Hofsjökull; Storglaciären; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study is to enhance our understanding of the response of glaciers to climate change. Global sea level is affected by changes in glacier ice volume, and melt-water from glaciers is a principal water source in many regions. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Studies in Glacier Mass Balance : Measurement and its errors

    Författare :Andrew Mercer; Peter Jansson; Gunhild Rosqvist; Ian Brown; Jonathan Carrivick; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glaciology; Mass Balance; Measurement Errors; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The study of the surface mass balance of valley glaciers has a long history but one that is dogged by uncertainty and errors, and uncertainty about those errors. These problems are acknowledged by the glaciological community and have been examined and formalised in several publications. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Dead-Ice Under Different Climate Conditions: Processes, Landforms, Sediments and Melt Rates in Iceland and Svalbard

    Författare :Anders Schomacker; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; klimatologi; glacier; dead-ice; surge; ice-cored; Little Ice Age; fysisk geografi; Geologi; Geology; Svalbard; Iceland; Sedimentology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Sedimentologi; Physical geography; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; climatology;

    Sammanfattning : Modern dead-ice environments in the glacier forefields of Brúarjökull, Iceland and Holmströmbreen, Svalbard were investigated with focus on landform and sediment genesis, as well as quantification of melting. Field monitoring and studies of multi-temporal aerial photographs, satellite imagery, and Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) provided data for the melting quantification. LÄS MER
