   Sammanfattning : Background: Critical illness and treatment in an intensive care unit (ICU) is a traumatic event for patients and their families, which involves stress, anxiety, fear, worry and uncertainty. Survival and homecoming entail new challenges, and a significant proportion of patients and their families suffer from the long-term impact on their mental and/or physical health, termed post intensive care syndrome (PICS).
