11. Phase-field modeling of stress-induced precipitation and kinetics in engineering metals
Sammanfattning : The formation of brittle compounds in metals operating in corrosive environments can be a tremendous source of embrittlement for industrial structures and such phenomenon is commonly enhanced in presence of stresses. To study this type of microstructural change modeling is preferred to experiment to reduce costs and prevent undesirable environmental impacts. LÄS MER
12. Phase transitions and phase frustration in multicomponent superconductors
Sammanfattning : Multicomponent superconductors described by several complex matter fields have properties radically different from those of their single-component counterparts. Examples include partially ordered phases and spontaneous breaking of time-reversal symmetry due to frustration between Josephson-coupled components. LÄS MER
13. Stability analysis and control design of spatially developing flows
Sammanfattning : Methods in hydrodynamic stability, systems and control theory are applied to spatially developing flows, where the flow is not required to vary slowly in the streamwise direction. A substantial part of the thesis presents a theoretical framework for the stability analysis, input-output behavior, model reduction and control design for fluid dynamical systems using examples on the linear complex Ginzburg-Landau equation. 14. Numerical solutions to non-linear inhomogeneous problems in Superconductivity : From sphalerons to multi-band boundary states and spontaneous magnetic fields
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a compilation of theoretical works focused on simulating and studying open questions regarding single and multiband superconductivity. In the last decades, with the discovery of multiband superconductors, the spectrum of potential applications has greatly widened. LÄS MER
15. Novel Phenomena in Superconductors and Superfluids: Boundary States, Spiral Magnetic Fields, and Solitons
Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis presents a comprehensive study of superconducting and superfluid states in a variety of physical systems. The research is based on 12 papers that explore different phenomena in-depth.One of the significant contributions of the thesis is the discovery of boundary states in superconductors.
