  2. 7. Gestational diabetes mellitus – prevalence in southern Sweden and risk factors for subsequent diabetes

    Författare :Claes Ignell; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prognosis; insulin resistance; insulin secretion; ethnic groups; sampling; diabetes; cohort studies; prevalence; oral glucose tolerance test; Gestational diabetes;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is associated with risks during pregnancy, during delivery, and in later life with a substantial risk of subsequent diabetes. The worldwide prevalence of GDM is increasing, but varies with differences in diagnostic methods and population characteristics. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Aspects of Gestational Diabetes : Screening System, Maternal and Fetal Complications

    Författare :Ingrid Östlund; Peter Damm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Gestational diabetes; screening; preeclampsia; random B-glucose; impaired glucose tolerance; macrosomia; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The appropriateness of universal screening for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has been strongly questioned, since it does not satisfy ethical principles for screening. The aims of these studies were to determine the prevalence of GDM, expressed in terms of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and diabetes mellitus (DM), to evaluate different screening models using traditional anamnestic risk factors and repeated random B-glucose, to determine whether GDM increases risks for maternal complications such as preeclampsia, and to determine whether IGT during pregnancy, if left untreated, is associated with increased maternal or neonatal morbidity. 5. 10. Clinical and Biochemical Features of Adult Diabetes Mellitus in Sudan

    Författare :Moawia Abdelgadir; Christian Berne; Anders Karlsson; Per-Eric Lins; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicine; diabetes mellitus; leptin; gestational diabetes mellitus; pregnancy; perinatal morbidity and mortality; carbohydrate rich-meals; self-monitoring; quality of life; sense of coherence; lower limb amputation; Sudan; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The high prevalence of diabetes mellitus among the Sudanese population is linked to obesity, poor glycaemic control and a high rate of complications. This study investigated 1/ Leptin hormone and its correlations with different biochemical characteristics in Sudanese diabetic subjects, 2/ The impact of glycaemic control on pregnancy outcome in pregnancies with diabetes, 3/ The glycaemic response to Sudanese traditional carbohydrate foods, 4/ The influence of glucose self-monitoring on the glycaemic control among this population, 5/ The health related quality of life in Sudanese subjects with diabetes-related lower limb amputation.
