  1. 1. Body mass index, cognitive ability, and dementia : prospective associations and methodological issues in late life

    Författare :Anna Dahl; Stig Berg; Bo Malmberg; Linda Hassing; Eleonor Fransson; Sven Nilsson; Åke Wahlin; Jönköping University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; aging; body mass index; cognition; dementia; epidemiology; longitudinal; population-based; prospective; Older people and ageing; Äldre och åldrande;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the present study were to investigate the association between overweight and cognitive ability and dementia, and to evaluate the usefulness of self-reported body mass index (BMI) in late life and various data sources commonly used in epidemiological studies to identify persons with dementia. Data were drawn from three population-based studies: the Swedish Adoption/Twin Study of Aging (SATSA), Aging in Women and Men: A Longitudinal Study of Gender Differences in Health Behaviour and Health among Elderly (the Gender Study), and the Finnish Lieto Study. 2. 2. Measurement Variability Related to Insulin Secretion and Sensitivity : Assessment and Implications in Epidemiological Studies

    Författare :Lars Berglund; Björn Zethelius; Johan Bring; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Geriatrics and medical gerontology; Geriatrik och medicinsk gerontologi; Geriatrics; Geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : There is a growing interest in random measurement variability of biological variables. In regression models, such variability of the predictors yields biased estimators of coefficients (regression dilution bias). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Physical restraint use and falls in institutional care of old people : effects of a restraint minimization program

    Författare :Tony Pellfolk; Karlsson Stig; Knut Engedal; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical restraints; falls; dementia; care of the elderly; risk factors; work environment; restraint minimization education program; staff knowledge and attitude; and quality of care.; Geriatrics and medical gerontology; Geriatrik och medicinsk gerontologi; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Physical restraint use and falls are common in institutional care of old people and various attempts have been made to reduce their occurrence. Falls and concomitant injuries are a major problem due to their negative effect on morbidity and mortality. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Physical activity, bone density, and fragility fractures in women

    Författare :Undis Englund; Ulrika Pettersson Kymmer; Peter Nordström; Gustaf Bucht; Karl Obrant; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Scandinavia has among the highest incidence of fragility fractures in the world. The reasons for this are unknown, but might involve differences in genetic and/or environmental factors, such as sunlight exposure and levels of physical activity. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Urinary tract infection : a serious health problem in old women

    Författare :Irene Eriksson; Birgitta Olofsson; Yngve Gustafson; Lisbeth Fagerström; Olle Söderhamn; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common bacterial infection in women of all ages but the incidence and prevalence increase with age. Despite the high incidence of UTI, little is known about its impact on morale or subjective wellbeing and daily life in old women. LÄS MER
