16. Crystal chemistry of Fe-Ti oxides in mafic rocks and metabasites: A study aimed at refinement of geological tools and interpretations
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four subprojects: (A) ‘Clouding of plagioclase by Fe-Ti oxides’, (B) ‘Fe-Ti oxides during high-pressure metamorphism of mafic rocks’, (C) ‘Magnetic study of Fe-Ti oxides in mafic rocks and metabasites’, and (D) ‘Topotactic phase transitions in oxide minerals’. A) In southern Sweden dolerite dikes and gabbros with clouded plagioclase are common. LÄS MER
17. Environmental and climatic aspects of the early to mid Holocene calcareous tufa and land mollusc fauna in southern Sweden
Sammanfattning : Although deposition of freshwater calcium carbonates, tufa, has occurred in large areas with carbonate soil or bedrock in Sweden, no tufa formation has been observed in Sweden. To better understand the factors controlling tufa formation in southern Sweden, bio- and lithostratigraphical studies were carried out on (paludal) calcareous tufa deposits in the province of Skåne. 18. Dissolution of fluorite type surfaces as analogues of spent nuclear fuel : Production of suitable analogues and study the effect of surface orientation on dissolution
Sammanfattning : It is accepted worldwide that the best final solution for spent nuclear fuel is to bury it in deep geological repositories. Despite the physical and chemical barriers that are supposed to isolate the nuclear waste for at least 100.000 years, some uncertainty factors may cause underground water to get in contact with the nuclear waste. 19. Constraining the Uplift History of the Al Hajar Mountains, Oman
Sammanfattning : Mountain building is the result of large compressional forces in the Earth’s crust where two tectonic plates collide. This is why mountains only form at plate boundaries, of which the Al Hajar Mountains in Oman and the United Arab Emirates is thought to be an example of. LÄS MER
20. Cryptic Orogeny : uplift of the Al Hajar Mountains at an alleged passive margin
Sammanfattning : Mountains evolve and grow because of the large forces that occur from the collision of tectonic plates. Plate boundaries change and move through time, and regions that were once stable, shallow-marine environments can be dragged into subduction zones and get transformed into vast mountain ranges.
