6. Target and non-target effects of genetically modified trees
Sammanfattning : Uncertainties of realized benefits and the potential for environmental effects of genetically modified (GM) trees may comprise an obstacle for an environmentally safe deployment and social acceptance of such products. Through a series of studies I explored target and non-target effects of GM trees in an objective to increase our knowledge of both benefits and environmental effects of these products. LÄS MER
7. Production of L-arginine by genetically modified Escherichia coli
Sammanfattning : In the recent years, the demand for environmental friendly produced L-arginine has risen with the increasing number of applications for this amino acid in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, animal feed and fertilizers. Members of the Corynebacteriaceae family are usually used for microbial L-arginine production. LÄS MER
8. Physiological roles of A1 and A2A adenosine receptors : studies using genetically modified mice
Sammanfattning : Since adenosine receptors were identified and cloned, their roles in animals and humans have been extensively studied. Because pharmacological tools have limitations, we have used mice in which adenosine receptors have been deleted to further study their roles under physiological and pathophysiological conditions. 9. Studies of Spinal Motor Control Networks in Genetically Modified Mouse Models
Sammanfattning : Spinal neurons are important in several aspects motor control. For example, the neurons essential for locomotor movements reside in the ventral spinal cord. In this thesis, different motor control functions are being related to neuronal populations defined by their common expression of a gene. LÄS MER
10. Metabolic roles of adenosine : studies using genetically modified mice and transfected cells
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to further investigate the metabolic roles of adenosine. The endogenous nucleoside adenosine acts by binding to the four adenosine receptors, A1R, A2AR, A2BR and A3R. The A1R is the adenosine receptor that has been proposed to be the one most involved in metabolism. LÄS MER
