  1. 11. Diffuse Optical Spectroscopy and Imaging of Turbid Media

    Författare :Can Xu; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; upconverting nanoparticles; luminescence; fluorescence; inverse problem; diffuse reflection spectroscopy; biomedical optics; photon migration; biomedical imaging; gas spectroscopy; medical diagnostics; tomography; Fysicumarkivet A:2013:Xu;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with optical spectroscopy and imaging of complex and strongly scattering turbid media. Focus is mainly placed on three topics, being i) diffuse optical spectroscopy of choroidal tumors, ii) gas spectroscopy in scattering materials using the GASMAS (gas in scattering media absorption spectroscopy) technique, and iii) luminescence diffuse optical imaging and tomography of tissues. 2. 12. Assessment of microvascular and metabolic responses in the skin

    Författare :Fredrik Iredahl; Erik Tesselaar; Folke Sjöberg; Simon Farnebo; Sven Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this project was to develop experimental in vivo models that allow for minimally invasive investigations of responses in the skin to microvascular and metabolic provocations. The cutaneous microvasculature has emerged as a valuable model and been proposed to mirror the microcirculation in other organs. LÄS MER

    Författare :Maria E Nilsson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; M protein; Streptococcus pyogenes; Streptolysin O; The complement system; Neutrophils; Biomedical sciences; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; General biomedical sciences; Biomedicinska vetenskaper allmänt ; Microbiology; transplantation; Immunology; serology; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; virology; Immunologi; serologi; Infections; Infektioner; Clinical biology; Klinisk biologi; bacteriology;

    Sammanfattning : Streptococcus pyogenes is an important human pathogen frequently colonizing the throat and skin of humans. To facilitate colonization and spread and to avoid the host immune defence, streptococci are endowed with a variety of virulence factors, two of which are investigated in this thesis namely streptolysin O (SLO) and M protein. 4. 14. Vanadate and Peroxovanadate Complexes of Biomedical Relevance : A speciation approach with focus on diabetes

    Författare :András Gorzsás; Lage Pettersson; Carlos F. G. C. Geraldes; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; vanadium; hydrogen peroxide; lactate; citrate; phosphate; alanyl serine; picolinic acid; speciation; formation constants; equilibrium; solution structure; potentiometry; NMR 51V; 31P; 13C; 1H ; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi; oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus is one of the most threatening epidemics of modern times with rapidly increasing incidence. Vanadium and peroxovanadium compounds have been shown to exert insulin–like actions and, in contrast to insulin, are orally applicable. However, problems with side–effects and toxicity remain. 5. 15. Bio-based nonionic antimicrobial polymers with isatin or indole functionality

    Författare :Xiaoya Li; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; antimicrobial polymers; nonionic; isatin; indole; miscibility; hemolytic activity; cytotoxicity;

    Sammanfattning : Infections by pathogenic microorganisms remain one of the most serious concerns in several areas, particularly in hygienic applications. Antimicrobials have been used to combat these infections. Using small molecular antimicrobials as additives or coatings is an industrially adopted strategy. LÄS MER
