  1. 1. Treatment of Skin Wounds with Cell Transplantation and Gene Transfer

    Författare :Tor Svensjö; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pigs; gene regulation; cell culture; fibroblasts; keratinocytes; wound healing; skin; gene transfer; Transplantation; gene therapy; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: A large number of different wound coverings have been used in order to improve the wound microenvironment, and thus accelerate repair. Since almost two centuries, clinicians and researchers have developed techniques for skin transplantation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Retroviral gene transfer to repopulating hematopoietic cells

    Författare :Thomas Relander; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; GLVR-1; VSV-G; amphotropic; GALV; long-term bone marrow culture; NOD SCID; retroviral vector; hematopoietic stem cells; stem cells; gene transfer; gene therapy; fibronectin; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) have the capacity to maintain hematopoiesis throughout life. HSCs are ideal targets for permanent gene transfer, as the transgene will be expressed in all the progeny of the gene-modified stem cells. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Evolutionary Dynamics of Mutation and Gene Transfer in Bacteria

    Författare :Peter A Lind; Dan I Andersson; J. Arjan G. M. de Visser; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fitness cost; bacterial evolution; gene amplification; mutational biases; GC content; synonymous substitutions; horizontal gene transfer; experimental evolution; Bacteriology; Bakteriologi; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; Genetics; Genetik; Biology; Biologi; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The study of bacterial evolution is fundamental for addressing current problems of antibiotic resistance and emerging infectious diseases and lays a solid foundation for successful and rational design in biotechnology and synthetic biology. The main aim of this thesis is to test evolutionary hypotheses, largely based on theoretical considerations and sequence analysis, by designing scenarios in a laboratory setting to obtain experimental data. 4. 4. On the binding of growth-promoting polyamines to proteoglycans: Implications for growth-regulation and polycation-mediated gene transfer

    Författare :Mattias Belting; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; cationic lipid.; gene transfer; gene therapy; cell growth; polyamine transport; spermine; polyamine; growth-inhibition; heparan sulphate; dermatan sulphate; Proteoglycan; glycosaminoglycan; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Sammanfattning : Initial investigations were directed at studying the interaction between polyamines and various glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). The polyamine spermine displayed binding to dermatan sulphate (DS) and heparan sulphate (HS) with similar (Kd, 3.9 x 10-4 M) and higher (Kd, 0.37 x 10-6 M) affinity, respectively, than to DNA.
