  1. 21. Disease-causing Keratin Mutations and Cytoskeletal Dysfunction in Human Skin : In vitro Models and new Pharmacologic Strategies for Treating Epidermolytic Genodermatoses

    Författare :Jean Christopher Chamcheu; Anders Vahlquist; Hans Törmä; Harshad Navsaria; Marie Virtanen; Torbjörn Egelrud; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidermolysis bullosa simplex; epidermolytic ichthyosis; genodermatoses; keratin; keratin mutation; keratinocytes; gene therapy; pharmacological therapy; immortalization; gene regulation; trimethylamine N-oxide TMAO ; sodium 4-phenylbutyrate 4-PBA ; tissue engineering; cell culture; heat shock proteins; MAP kinases; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi; Dermatologi och venereologi; Dermatology and Venerology;

    Sammanfattning : Epidermolysis bullosa simplex (EBS) and epidermolytic ichthyosis (EI) are rare skin fragility diseases characterized by intra-epidermal blistering due to autosomal dominant-negative mutations in basal (KRT5 or KRT14) and suprabasal (KRT1 or KRT10) keratin genes,  respectively. Despite vast knowledge in the disease pathogenesis, the pathomechanisms are not fully understood, and no effective remedies exist. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Gene therapy by enzyme replacement for Parkinson’s disease Optimization of continuous DOPA delivery and development of a candidate vector for clinical application

    Författare :Tomas Björklund; Brain Repair and Imaging in Neural Systems (BRAINS); []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serotonin; Parkinson’s disease; L-DOPA; dyskinesia; GTP cyclohydrolase 1; tyrosine hydroxylase; dopamine; gene therapy; enzyme replacement; gene regulation; aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase;

    Sammanfattning : The introduction of L-DOPA pharmacotherapy revolutionized the treatment of Parkinson’s disease close to fifty years ago. Before the discovery of dopamine as a neurotransmitter and its involvement in the disease, these patients had very little aid from medication and were bound to a life without movement. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Gene Therapy with Interferon Alpha and the Angiogenic Inhibitor, Vasostatin, in Neuroendocrine Tumors of the Digestive System

    Författare :Minghui Liu; Kjell Oberg; Yinghua Zhou; Bertram Wiedenmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Internal medicine; neuroendocrine tumor; interferon-α; vasostatin; vinculin; tumor suppressor gene; nude mice; gene therapy; Invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : IFN-α has been applied in medical treatment of various neuroendocrine (NE) tumors, either alone or combination with somatostatin analogues. They can improve clinical symptoms in 50-70% of patients but a significant tumor reduction is only observed in 5-15% patients. Vasostatin (vaso) is believed to be an angiogenic inhibitor. LÄS MER

  4. 24. The quest for new improved adenovirus gene therapy vectors against glioma tumours

    Författare :Johan Skog; Göran Wadell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gene therapy; virology; adenovirus; glioma; glioblastoma; Genterapi; virologi; adenovirus; gliom; glioblastom; Virology; Virologi;

    Sammanfattning : Gene therapy has received much attention the last decade as a method to correct a number of disorders arising from a defective gene. Gene therapy can be defined as the introduction of a functional genetic element into a cell for a therapeutic purpose. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Myocardial gene therapy and gene expression in angina pectoris

    Författare :Andreas Rück; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Angina pectoris; gene therapy; vascular endothelial growth factor; plasmid; prognosis; collaterals; angiogenesis; gene expression; microarray; natriuretic peptides.;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Angiogenesis does not fully counteract myocardial ischemia in stable angina pectoris. Refractory angina pectoris, with remaining symptoms despite medication and no possibility for bypass surgery or angioplasty, is rather common. Angiogenic gene therapy is a novel treatment strategy for these patients. LÄS MER
