  1. 11. Mechanisms of cell diversification

    Författare :Christopher Winston Uhde; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cell identity and function is determined by the intrinsic wiring of the gene regulatory network that endows progenitors with the competence to respond appropriately to extrinsic cues in a spatiotemporally-dependent manner. One such class of cues, morphogens, instruct cells in their identity by virtue of a concentration gradient, but how this is interpreted at gene regulatory levels to result in sharp and robust boundaries of gene expression is poorly understood. 2. 12. Cutaneous effects of nerve injury : An experimental study in the rat

    Författare :Nenad Stankovics; Göran Lundborg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : One of the most difficult tasks of the hand surgeon is to reach a satisfactory restoration of the nerve functions of the injuried hand. In spite of the use of meticulous microsurgery, the results of nerve repair are disappointing, particularly with respect to mixed nerve trunks. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Molecular Mechanisms of Reward and Aversion

    Sammanfattning : Various molecular pathways in the brain shape our understanding of good and bad, as well as our motivation to seek and avoid such stimuli. This work evolves around how systemic inflammation causes aversion; and why general unpleasant states such as sickness, stress, pain and nausea are encoded by our brain as undesirable; and contrary to these questions, how drugs of abuse can subjugate the motivational neurocircuitry of the brain. 4. 14. Role of cholesterol metabolism in hepatic steatosis and glucose tolerance

    Författare :Osman Salih Osman Ahmed; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The liver is the central organ for lipid, lipoprotein and glucose homeostasis, thus hepatic metabolic disturbances can predispose individuals to develop cardiometabolic disorders (CMD) such as atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVD), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).The overall aim of this thesis was to expand the knowledge on how genetic and pharmacological interventions on hepatic and intestinal cholesterol metabolism could affect the pathophysiology of CMD. 5. 15. Genetic and Ecological Consequences of Fish Releases : With Focus on Supportive Breeding of Brown Trout Salmo trutta and Translocation of European Eel Anguilla anguilla

    Författare :Johan Dannewitz; Jacob Höglund; Erik Petersson; Ian Fleming; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; conservation; fishery management; panmixia; genetic variation; effective population size; hatchery selection; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Although the practice of releasing fish into the wild is common in the management and conservation of fish populations, the success of release programmes and the potential harmful genetic and ecological effects that may follow are rarely considered. This thesis focuses on genetic and ecological consequences of fish releases, exemplified by supportive breeding of brown trout (Salmo trutta) and translocation of European eel (Anguilla anguilla).
