1. Wheat Gluten -Based Materials and Composites: Extrusion, Casting and Antimicrobial Properties
Sammanfattning : The use of bio-based polymers as packaging materials has gained much attention due to increasing environmental concerns regarding non-biodegradable petroleum-derived plastics. Wheat gluten (WG) is a valuable renewable resource for the production of bio-based materials because of its low price, biodegradability, good film-forming properties and good gas barrier properties under dry conditions. 2. Exploring expandable microspheres as a novel pore former in gel-cast macroporous alumina
Sammanfattning : Expandable microspheres have been explored as sacrificial templates for the production of macroporous ceramics. Concentrated alumina powder suspensions that contain expandable microspheres have been consolidated by gel-casting. LÄS MER
3. Shaping Macroporous Ceramics : templated synthesis, X-ray tomography and permeability
Sammanfattning : Macroporous ceramic materials have found widespread technological application ranging from particulate filters in diesel engines, tissue engineering scaffolds, and as support materials in carbon capture processes. This thesis demonstrates how the pore space of macroporous alumina can be manipulated, analysed in three-dimensions (3D) using visualisation techniques, and functionalised with a CO2-adsorbing material. 4. Lithium Ion Conductive Membranes Based on Co-continuous Polymer Blends
Sammanfattning : There is a growing need for multifunctional polymeric materials for the development of several important energy conversion technologies. For example, the polymer electrolyte is a key component in lithium polymer batteries. The basic functions of this electrolyte are to efficiently conduct the lithium ions and physically separate the electrodes. LÄS MER
5. Silicon Carbide and Silicon Nitride Ceramics Based on Colloidal Processing and Sol-Gel Techniques
Sammanfattning : The work in this dissertation deals with the development of silicon carbide and silicon nitride-based materials using colloidal processing and sol-gel techniques. Special attention has been given to the optimization of the homogeneity in ceramic multicomponent systems. LÄS MER
