  1. 1. Galaxies in the epoch of reionization : Investigating the high-redshift galaxy population through simulations and observations

    Författare :Christian Binggeli; Erik Zackrisson; Sofia Ramstedt; Martin Sahlén; Stephen Wilkins; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; galaxies: high-redshift; galaxies: ISM; galaxies: evolution; reionization; Lyman continuum; Astronomy; Astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : The cosmic reionization is the last major gas phase transition in cosmic history, yet it remains poorly understood. Current constraints indicate that early star-forming galaxies drove the reionization process through producing and releasing large numbers of ionizing photons into the intergalactic medium. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Neutral gas properties of high-redshift analog galaxies : 21cm observations of Lyα and LyC-emitting galaxies

    Författare :Alexandra Le Reste; Matthew J. Hayes; John Cannon; Rychard Bouwens; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galaxies; Lyman alpha; Lyman Continuum; 21cm line; Interacting galaxies; Epoch of Reionization; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : Neutral hydrogen (HI) is the most abundant baryonic element and a crucial component of galaxies. In the early universe, the interaction between neutral gas and the light produced by galaxies is thought to have given rise to cosmological reionization. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Quasar host galaxies at intermediate and high redshifts

    Författare :Eva Örndahl; Bengt Gustafsson; Jari Kotilainen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; Active galaxies; Quasars; Host galaxies; Imaging; Photometry; Magnitudes; Colours; Morphology; Statistical methods; High-redshift; Infrared; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; Theoretical Astrophysics; teoretisk astrofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Quasars form one of the most energetic phenomena in the universe, and can be traced out to very large redshifts. By studying the galaxies which host the active nuclei, important insights can be gained into the processes that trigger and maintain the quasar powerhouse. LÄS MER

  4. 4. High-redshift active galactic nuclei and their environment

    Författare :Judit Fogasy; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; galaxies: evolution -- galaxies: high-redshift -- galaxies: active -- galaxies: Starburst -- -- Submillimeter: galaxies;

    Sammanfattning : In order to understand the formation and evolution of local massive galaxies and to reveal the processes that engineered the tight correlations found between their supermassive black hole (SMBH) mass and bulge mass or velocity dispersion, the study of powerful, high-redshift active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and their environment is crucial. AGNs are luminous targets providing important clues to galaxy evolution, as their central SMBH is growing at high rates, which opens the opportunity to unfold how the growth of the black hole influences the growth of its host galaxy. 5. 5. The environment of high-redshift AGN

    Författare :Judit Fogasy; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In order to understand the formation and evolution of local massive galaxies and to reveal the processes that engineered the tight correlations found between their supermassive black hole (SMBH) mass and bulge mass or velocity dispersion, the study of powerful, high-redshift active galactic nuclei (AGN) and their environment is crucial. Observations of high-z quasars and radio galaxies suggest that these AGN live in overdense environment surrounding by star-forming Ly&alpha-emitters and submillimeter galaxies. LÄS MER
